Chapter 15: New Year?

It was already New Year’s Eve! I couldn’t believe how fast time seemed to be going when you’re just hanging with your friends all day. Dana and I were spending most of our time together since I knew that they left on the fifth of January to go back to LA. I was definitely going to miss him and whatever this was that we had going on.

He was part of the reason for my stress while I paced back and forth in my room. Edith, Cassidy, Alex, my mom and Joni were all with me, watching me create a permanent indent in the wood panels.

“Sweetie, please just calm down. I hate to see you so worked up like this!” My mother told me while I kept pacing.

“I can’t calm down. Dana has yet to ask me to be his girlfriend but we’ve been on three more dates since the first one. He’s literally leaving in five days to the other side of the nation so I would like to just freak out a little bit more without everyone telling me to calm down. Thanks.” I said sassily as I continued my back and forth. We were constantly acting like a couple now. Well, I guess it’s not that different from the way we normally acted, it’s just that now I get to kiss him a whole lot more which is definitely a bonus.

We were all in my room because Gabe told Alex that Dana had something important to tell me tonight at the New Year’s party at his house. That was four hours ago and I called in all the troops. The troops were originally just the girls but my mom and Joni found their way inside and we were all brainstorming what it could be if not what I wanted.

“Momma Joni! You’re his mother. Doesn’t he mention anything to you?” I begged her as she shook her head sadly.

“He goes to Dana with all of his woman problems because he says that men do it the manly way. The only time you see him coming to me for advice is if he should put mayo or mustard on his sandwich.” She told us making me groan.

I fell back onto my bed, crushing Edith’s torso and Cassidy’s legs with the velocity of my fall. I could no longer be bothered with anything and just wanted to sleep.

“I give up. I’m just going to go and be cute and if he doesn’t say what I want him to, I’ll just be happy for the taste I guess.” Making everyone nod. We were all out of ideas and it was almost time for all of us to get ready. “Let’s get gorgeous!”

We were finally at the party which was in full swing. I was walking around looking for Dana when I bumped into someone.

“Shawnie!” I screamed his nickname, pulling him in for a hug. I missed seeing him and he was busy all week with meetings and things. I didn’t think he would make it but I’m glad that he did.

“Rach! I’ve missed you so much. We need to hang out again!” He said getting closer to my ear. I nodded my head rapidly and hugged him again before he decided to go and get some food. I walked all around the first floor, still not seeing the guest of honor, at least for me.

I was starting to give up hope when I heard a giggle come from the basement. Quirking my eyebrow up, I listened more intently to make sure I wasn’t hearing things. Why would there be laughter from there? As far as I know, Dana was the only one with a key to get down there. Checking to see if it was locked, I turned the knob and smiled when I saw it was open.

I guess whoever was down there was startled to see someone actually open it because they broke apart from each other quickly. Taking one step down, I closed the door and descended the steps, dreading what I would find waiting at the bottom for me.

I let out the hugest breath of relief when I saw that it was just Cole and Cassidy who were here. Shaking my head at their antics, I made my way back toward the steps.

“Hey Cole, you wouldn’t have happened to see your curly little best friend would you?” I asked him after I paused on the top step.

“He went to go and get some more drinks from the store for his mom. He told me to tell you that if he wasn’t back by midnight, wait in his room until he came and found you.” He told me, looking guilty as he realized he forgot to tell me this.

Pulling my phone out of my purse, I read the eleven fifty-nine on the screen and hurried up to his room. There was a silhouette of a person’s body sitting on the bed and afraid that I had come too late, ran up and kissed them. We were getting really into it when the lights shone on us and I looked around.

My eyes were as wide as saucers as I looked up to see a shocked Shawn in front of me and a heartbroken Dana at the door. There was a bouquet of flowers in his hand that he threw down as he ran towards the entrance. I ran after him, my shoes slowing me down entirely until I saw his figure turn the corner.

Shawn came up to me and held me while I cried into his shoulder. I needed to fix this and tell him it was a mistake but I doubt he would ever talk to me again. Why wouldn’t I just turn on the lights when I got in there?

I sighed loudly, letting go of Shawn as he just stared at me. I moved away from him and began my walk home. I had no clue where Dana had gone and Shawn was not making the situation any better by not speaking.

I walked in the door at twelve thirty-seven and made my way to my bed. It was there that I noticed a beautiful box on my bed along with a card. Opening the envelope, I felt the tears consume my being as I fell to the ground. I took the charm and held it to my chest as the sobs racked my body. I messed up big time and if this was any type of sign, then I would never get another chance at the feeling of happiness I felt while with Dana.

“Happy New Year.” I said quietly to myself in between sobs as I unconsciously rocked my body back and forth.

Super short chapter but it's literally four thirty in the morning and I'm crying because Connor Franta decided to mess with my feelings. Anyone a fan and saw his video? SO beautiful and inspiring wow.

Yeah but I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I'm gonna start a new story really soon. Its an IM5 story but an AU (Alternate Universe) and I really like it.
