Kageyama's POV

(Y/n)-chan finally came back from her trip outside the country after a few days. Of course, everyone felt relieved and happy that she finally came back since it meant that Ukai-san no longer had to train us that much. Yet something about her felt off.

We were now training for our upcoming competition. It's a small event where basically schools in Japan gets to participate to celebrate teamwork, or something like that.

"Hinata! That's the 9th time you missed your receives." (Y/n)-chan called out in frustration, massaging her temples. "U-uh I'm sorry (y/n)-chan I'll do better!" Hinata apologized, going back to his form. "Forget it, take a break. Next player." she said coldly, leaving him in shock. He hesitated to walk off the line of players at first, but decided to leave upset.

He turned to me, "You should've practiced more instead of continuously trying her quicks." I said, he simply sighed in despair. "Something's wrong with her...and I think it's my fault! I keep messing up my receives and it's testing her patience!" Hinata pouted.

Well, he was somewhat right, something is going on with (y/n) though it's not Hinata's fault. She's become more strict with our trainings regardless of us doing better. She's always been calm with things even if we f*cked up. "I don't think it's your fault, don't take it personally. She's probably going through something." I patted his shoulder as his eyes widened. "Man, you're being nice to me now? Why is everyone acting weird today?!" he ruffled his hair while walking off. I think the only weirdo here is you...

I turned to her once again, I noticed she was in a daze while watching Noya-san and Sawamura-san practice their receives. It seemed like her mind wasn't focus on what's going on in front of her but somewhere else. "(l/n)-san! Look out!" Sawamura-san called out, yet her instincts were too slow to see the falling ladder behind her.

My body took over my mind as I ran towards her.

(Y/n)'s POV

I was out of my mind while observing the boys train, my body felt numb and my mind was completely full with a lot of things.

My hearing slowly came back to reality as I heard Sawamura-san call out. "(l/n)-san look out!" he extended his hand. It was as if my world was in slow motion. I felt myself look back slowly as the metal ladder slowly fall over me.

My body shiver and felt weak as I couldn't move away from it, I found myself completely still, staring at what was happening before me. I close my eyes and cover my head in fear.

BAAAM!!!

I heard the ladder crash yet I couldn't feel anything but my back hurting from crash landing, shivering and covered with a warm embrace. "Tsk." a familiar voice clicked their tongue. I also heard a small whimper from the person. I slowly opened one eye to peek at the person embracing me. It was Kageyama. He winced in pain.

"Kageyama!!!!" the others call out as I heard multiple people running to our direction. Yet I found myself completely frozen once again, eyes widened, staring back at his dark eyes while they shown pain. "A-are you okay?" he asked weakly, I flinched with his voice and immediately came back to my senses. "W-why did you do that...?" I whispered.

Tanaka-san and Hinata helped him up as Shimizu-san and Sawamura-san came to me. "Are you alright, (l/n)-san?!" Tanaka-sensei asked in panic, while his hands shivered in nervousness. "I-I'm fine, sensei." I massaged the back of my head. I glanced at the boys helping Kageyama walk outside as he limps his way out, to fetch him to the clinic.

I immediately ran towards him yet it was too late as they couldn't hear me calling out.

☆☆☆

After Hinata and Tanaka-san came back I immediately approached them, feeling my heart race. "I-is he okay?!" I asked, they were surprised by my sudden approach and sighed. "Luckily, he just bruised his back, but it still looks pretty bad." Tanaka-sam fiddled with his words. "He currently can't move that much, but fortunately he's an athlete, so he can still manage to go home, so don't worry (y/n)-cha-" I didn't bother to finish Hinata's sentence as I found myself running towards the clinic.

I heard them call out to me yet I ignored it, I knew I had to come to him.

☆☆☆

I finally reached the clinic's door. I took a deep breath and knocked. I slid it open and went inside.

I slowly slid the curtain covering the patient's bed and found a shocking sight. It took a moment for us to process what was going on, he was also in shock as he continued to stare back at me with eyes wide opened, but I immediately closed the curtain. He was shirtless!!!

I felt my face burn up and my heart race as I heard him putting on his shirt. "U-uh... you can look now." I flinched to his voice that called out from the other side of the curtain. I slowly opened it back again, keeping my eyes close. "Don't worry, you can open it."

I slowly slid one eye open to peek and he was right, I decided to open them both once again while immediately looking away. "U-uh..." I stuttered. An awkward silence consumed the room as he continued to look at me in confusion. "H-how are you...?" I mumbled, still looking away. I felt my face heat up in embarrassment. I hope he won't notice.

"A-ah...I'm fine." he looked away, scratching his cheek, seems he was also finding the words to say. An awkward silence occupied between our small talk once again as we faced each other and opened our mouths, about to say something, at the same time. "... You go first." I held out my hand as he simply sighed. "Are you alright?" he returned the question back to me.

Kageyama's POV

"Are you alright?" I asked. She continued to look away blushing. "... Idiot." she mumbled while puffing her cheeks, forming fists. "W-what?" I recalled. "I said you're an idiot..." she came closer, cupping her hands on my cheeks, pinching them. "... why would you risk yourself like that?" she furrowed her brows as I saw her eyes water. "I got so scared that... that something bad happened... because...I was being an air-head!" tears from her eyes started rolling down her cheeks as she continued to squish mine.

She immediately let go of my face as she quickly wiped away her tears. "I'm here to say sorry... for giving you so much trouble." she looked down, fiddling her fingers. I continued to look at her, finding the words to say, yet I decided to simply pat her head. "Don't worry, my injury's not that bad, it could've been worse if your head got hit." I continued to pat her head as she looked up to me.

It was the first time I saw her at such a helpless and weak state, for some reason it made my heart flutter, how for such a strong girl to depend on someone like me.

"I-I know you've also noticed I'm acting weird and strict during practices. To be honest, I'm not doing too good at the moment." she looked away as she sat on the bed right next to me. "...Toru-kun...broke up with me." she said, as she stared at the blank wall in front of her, with a hint of pain in her voice. It made me shock, how someone like Oikawa-san, who obviously cared and treasured her so much, could toss her away just like that.

Tears started to roll down her face once again as she sniffles. "He... broke up with me through text three days ago. To be honest I already landed Japan that time... yet I couldn't go to school feeling like sh*t." this time, she faced me with a forced smile. "It was sudden. I asked why, he simply told me that he was tired and he couldn't like someone from a school that's their opponent." she continued to explain. "I called him and just told me it was over, that he's choosing his career as a volleyball player more than me. He didn't bother to listen to what I had to say as he kept cutting me off... I understand... that I'm holding him back from his dreams... but why? all of the sudden..." she gasped as I pulled her closer to me, hugging her.

"Don't worry, you don't have to force a smile... I won't look at your crying face." I whispered as I leaned my chin on top of her head. "You can cry all you want. I don't see you." I added, patting her back.

"I'm sorry. I rambled." she kept repeating as she sobs in my embrace. I could feel my shirt get soaked with her tears yet it didn't bother me. I hugged her tighter as she shivers out of sadness.

On that day, I found out that (l/n) (y/n) is not an air-head, but she is a delicate and weak girl hiding behind her talent, strength, and capabilities.
