FALDREY

On getting into the maidens' building of the servants' quarters, Faldrey realised it was less rowdy than the mess that was the one he had just left.

Dashing through the first hallway most of the rooms were deserted, the doors ajar. He continued running well into the building, towards Aphrodite's room but everywhere was till silent. He hadn't seen even one servant in the hallways.

He got to the end of the hallway, which had two turns; a lot of noise was coming from the rooms on the left but Aphrodite's room was on the right. He was stuck between two decisions, and time was running out.

Fortunately a maid servant, brushed past him and continued skipping to the rooms on the left.

"Excuse me," he caught her arm before she could run out of his reach. "Where are the earth Stoichi Dakyres gathered, please?"

She just stared at him blankly for a few seconds before pulling her arm away from his grip.

"Oh, fuck off," she continued down the hallway

Faldrey was frozen by her action, he blinked repeatedly, his gaze fixed at the back of her head.

"That's rude!" He yelled at her from where he stood.

"You're stupid, you should be over at your own side of the quarters, saving yourself. But instead you're here to make love with your earth Dakyre girlfriend. I'll have to inform you that your love is fake and it will not last," she stopped and turned to Faldrey, yelling at him.

"Aphrodite is not my girlfriend and I'm not here to make love with her, what's wrong with you?!" He called back, frowning at the hoarseness in her voice.

"Whatever, I don't care. It's not like I admire your long hair or your beautiful face," she turned and continued skipping down the hallway.

Faldrey wondered what had just happened with the girl, but he couldn't waste time dilly-dallying. He decided to check her room first then if she wasn't there he would check the other rooms down the hallway where the girl had walked down to.

Speeding to Aphrodite's room he silently prayed that she hadn't gone to look for him, time wasn't on their side. He finally made it through the ugly, rough stone hallway and got to Aphrodite's door.

Swinging the door open with more speed than he intended to, he saw Aphrodite laying on her bed.

"What are you doing, Aphrodite? We've to go now. The Sphinx came earlier than we thought they would," he informed loudly, still standing by the door.

He heard a weak chuckle come from Aphrodite who didn't even move a muscle, she just chuckled like the fact that the entire castle was crumbling down didn't concern her at all. Faldrey entered the small room, walking up to her bed.

"There's no time for this, we've to—" he choked on the rest of his sentence when he had gotten close enough to see her face.

The dying candle on the wooden stool mildly lit the room, and it was just beside her bed.

Faldrey's heart began to beat faster than it ever had.

"No no no no no no no," he chanted, bolting towards her bed. He knelt on the floor and examined his friend who hadn't even said a word. "What happened to you, Aphrodite?" He said with a teary voice.

His friend looked like a skeleton, dried up and empty, only a thin layer of flesh covered her bones. Her cheekbones were so prominent and her eyes had sunk into her skull.

"Ahh Byron, all thanks to Zaal that you're here. I was thinking I was going to die sad and alone," her voice sounded weak and raspy, just like a whisper.
