FALDREY

Faldrey knew he was dead. He knew he had spent the last minutes of his life in the realm with his lover, who held him so fondly.

But he couldn't quite place his senses on where he was. Maybe he had turned into a sprite?

No.

He knew when Dakyres die they don't turn into sprites, they transcend to the Otherrealm where their life is evaluated and their fate decided.

Faldrey tried to touch, to feel, but everything felt abstract and intangible. Since he wasn't feeling the cold heat of a dungeon cell, he knew he was safe, at least till he's proven otherwise.

A white light which seemed to lift him filled his eyes, or maybe he was trapped in a distorting kaleidoscope. He was still trying to wrap his unconsciousness around the uncertainties of where and when he was, when the Phantom presence of a force of the Otherrealm filled the rest of his senses; his hearing, his feeling, his tasting.

His ears were overwhelmed by the beautiful sound of birds chirping at each other and flitting from tree to tree as though battling over the best roosting sights. He could taste the faint bittersweet taste of goji berries in the back of his tongue, the thin skin giving way for the juices to settle on his tongue. Oh how he missed goji berries. The smell of petrichor enticing and tickling the deepest part of his nose. Like a pluviophile would, he bottled up the heavenly aroma of love and nature.

All the things he could hear, taste and smell engulfed him in an unworldly feeling of safety and belonging. All the sadness, all the pain, all the despair, every sour emotion he had ever nursed in the realm was sent away by this warmth, leaving him tranquil and at peace like a new born babe.

Faldrey could hear, taste and feel the sensation this Phantom immersed him into, but the lurid coruscating light that intimidated the stars in the realm lingered, paralyzing his vision entirely.

"Make it so that I may see you," Faldrey pleaded.

The peaceful warm bliss he enjoyed as a result of the phantom's presence made him sing, instead of talk. He yearned to set his eyes on this particular force of the Otherrealm.

"But child, if you get as much as a glimpse of my apparition your soul would wither into oblivion," the voice blended with the chirping birds, as though he was the maestro to their orchestra.

Faldrey was suddenly filled with a strong sense of hope and safety. The voice resonated with what would have been his beating heart.

"Zaal?" He called out.

Faldrey assumed he had to be standing but no effort whatsoever was being put on his feet. He realised he was floating in blissful oblivion.

"Yes my child, I can hear you. I've always heard you."

Faldrey felt tendrils of tenderness graze against his face like he was being kissed by the moon. He was so happy he had transcended the limits of tears of joy.

"Zaal! I always knew you could hear me, I almost lost hope but you sent people my way. People who helped me stay strong on my path, people who helped me fulfil my destiny," he reached out but the comfort was everywhere, his perception couldn't tell from where the sensory information came.

"Yes child, you stayed true on your path and fulfilled your destiny. After seven reincarnations succeeding Alistair, you—Faldrey Kieslaer, the eight reincarnation of the beloved one of the Dakyres of Ardor broke the cursed cycle and set your souls free from the wheel," Zaal sang in an unworldly melody which heightened the beatitude that engulfed Faldrey.

He could feel the lustrous phantasm of him shiver.

"So the legend was true?"

"Every legend your mother ever told you was true," the musical chuckle of Zaal filled his senses.

"I almost lost hope," Faldrey confessed.

"Yes lamb, but you didn't. And for that I and the cherubic forces of the Otherrealm will grant you a wish. Name whatever it is you so desire and it shall be granted unto you."

"Anything at all?" Faldrey questioned.

"Anything your strong spirit so desires," the response was instant and reassuring.

Faldrey's unconsciousness did not find this to be a difficult decision. Ever since he was whisked into the Otherrealm, only the feeling of his lover's tender lips lingered and moved with him. He wasn't satisfied with the way his story was to end.

"I ask that I be reincarnated and joined with my lover, no matter how many lives it takes for us to meet again," Faldrey answered with unwavering resolve.

"That you shall get but every memory you have of this lifetime will leave you, the only feeling that would remain is your love for Theobald. The fire of your love will only rekindle when you meet him, then your memories of this life will emerge from the flames of your love."

Faldrey listened attentively to the ethereal sound waves of Zaal's voice.

"Thank you so much," Faldrey muttered under his breath because he knew Zaal was omnipresent, he hears the prayers muttered into tear-wet pillows at night.

"You're most welcome Faldrey Kieslaer Pendragon Alistair, you're always welcome."

Those were the last words his unconsciousness heard before it was whisked into the bosom of Zaal. His spirit unifying with the ecstasy of the Otherrealm

His story wasn't going to end this way, it was to continue in some other lifetime.
