(Black Beard's Pub – Reena's P.O.V.)

Bonney slammed her empty shot glass onto the counter. "Wo-woah! Now that's some smooth liquor."

Slinging a rag over his shoulder, Teach bore down at her with a smug expression. "It's a new brand."

Absentmindedly playing with peanut shells on the counter, I gave Bonney a side glance. She was starting to slide out of her chair after two shots and three beers.

Deciding that it was about time to go, having been at Black Beard's for nearly two hours, I waved the burly man over. "How about two burgers to go?"

"What?" Bonney pouted. "To go? You're not leaving already are you? You've only had one drink!"

"And one is enough for me," I assured her.

I was a light-weight and the perfect cheap date. I could have two shots of whisky and be good for the rest of the night.

"No," Bonney whined, "no! Teach! Four shots of that-" she paused and snapped her fingers repeatedly, trying to think of the name of the shot that she had just had, "-that stuff you just gave me!"

Teach winked down at me. "I'll set aside two burgers."

"Can you make it three," Kid added.

I forgot that he was next to me.

Scratching at the back of my neck, I looked up at him. "Honestly, I forgot you were there."

Kid shrugged. "I figured."

"So... How do you know Bonney?" I was never good at having conversations with people I just met. Somehow I always made it awkward.

"We have a class together," Bonney answered for him.

"Ah," I mumbled, not having much else to say.

That still doesn't explain why he was hanging out with us. I didn't know him, and I knew Bonney didn't really know him or else she would've mentioned him at least once.

"Yeah." Bonney flicked peanut shells across the bar. "Apparently he locked himself out of his apartment. I over heard him talking on the phone. I offered to let him hang with us until he could get in."

Kid munched on some peanuts. "I'm just here to pass time until my roommate gets home."

Opening another peanut, I tossed it into my mouth. "Why didn't you just call the tenant for a spare key? Or call a friend?"

"The office closed early today, and I was going to call someone but your friend wouldn't leave me alone until I got into her car," he said.

Then it clicked, he was hanging out with us because he's being forced to.

Teach set six shots down in front of us and then left to take care of other customers.

Kid stared down at the shots in front of him. "I didn't ask for these."

Bonney swiveled around in her chair and kicked her feet up on the counter. "Who cares! Enjoy yourself for once, you stiff!"

"Stiff?" He repeated.

I could tell that he didn't like being called that.

"Well," I couldn't help but smirk, raising one of my shots to him, "here's to you, stiff."

He rolled his eyes. Picking up his own shot, he saluted it and then drank it. He didn't even flinch from the bitter taste.

"Now we're talking!" Bonney grinned, tossing her own shot back.
