It was now mid April. Renjun and Jeno had been dating for almost three months.
Jeno was currently sitting in Renjun's room, watching as the small boy ran around trying to find his phone before they left.
The Chinese boy had insisted that Jeno meet his parents. Jeno was a nervous wreck. Especially after everything had gone down with his own parents, but he trusted Renjun and from what he had heard so far, Renjun's parents were probably the nicest humans on earth.
Apart from Renjun, of course.
"found it!" Renjun piped up from the side of the room. He quickly ran back to Jeno and linked their hands.
"You're nervous aren't you," Renjun said.
"no, who said I was nervous?" Jeno replied, trying to sound calm.
"oh come on Jeno. You can't lie to me, I know you too well," Renjun said, smiling.
Jeno laughed. "alright fine, I may be just the tiniest bit nervous," he admitted.
"Don't worry, they're gonna love you, I promise!" Hearing Renjun say this did make Jeno feel slightly more reassured.
"I trust you," Jeno answered, with his signature eye smile, "You look beautiful by the way," he said, making Renjun blush furiously.
"You look even better," Renjun said, "now come on! we're gonna be late!"
Renjun pulled Jeno up and the two boys rushed out of the room. They had agreed to meet Renjun's parents at a restaurant downtown, not so far from where they had their first date.
The restaurant was pretty big, and there were a few other families inside. Right when they walked through the door, Renjun was greeted by a big hug. "Renjun-ah!" We missed you so much!" his mom said with a warm smile on her face.
"You must be Jeno! Renjun has told us so much about you!" Renjun's dad said enthusiastically as his mom ran over to give Jeno a gentle hug as well, and then quickly led both boys over to the table they were sitting at.
Jeno quickly reminded himself to turn on the 'perfect boyfriend switch' in the back of his head.
After ordering the food, Renjun's parents began asking both of them a series of questions. How they were doing in school, how they were doing outside of school, how they met. They wanted to know everything.
But it wasn't in a threatening way. It seemed more like calm casual conversation, which is what put Jeno at ease.
And from what Renjun's parents could tell, Jeno was the perfect boyfriend. They couldn't have asked for anything more.
Even Renjun was in awe at how smooth Jeno was with his words. The boy quickly took Jeno's hand in his own, squeezing it to let him know how well he was doing.
When Jeno wasn't looking, Renjun even saw his mom mouth the words "he's perfect," to both him and his dad, which he saw his dad immediately agree to.
This left Renjun with a huge smile on his face. The dinner had gone even better than he had expected.
But there was one more surprise that he had left for Jeno that night.
When they had all finished their meal, Renjun quickly hugged his parents again, letting them know that he would see them back at home. Then quickly intertwining his and Jeno's hand once again.
"Where are we going?" Jeno asked, slightly surprised.
"Han river," renjun replied simply.
"Why?" Jeno asked again.
"We can look at the cherry blossoms? And I have a surprise," he said excitedly.
It was past 11 o'clock at night, so the sky was already dark and Jeno doubted they would be able to see any cherry blossoms at this hour, but he just shrugged, following the smiling boy who was now pulling him along.
"We're going to have to walk a little bit, but let's just enjoy it," renjun said.
Jeno smiled. "Okay," he agreed.
It was quiet, only a small handful of people were still walking alongside the river. But Jeno had to admit, it was very calming and he enjoyed it.
"Wanna get on my back?" Jeno asked.
Renjun laughed, "seriously?"
Jeno nodded, and Renjun looked around before hesitantly jumping on his boyfriend's back, wrapping his arms around Jeno's shoulders.
"Okay, now keep walking. I'm gonna cover your eyes, we're almost at the surprise," renjun said.
Jeno nodded while Renjun, still on Jeno's back, moved his hands over Jeno's eyes.
When he felt Renjun jump off his back, Jeno slowly opened his eyes and in front of him, he saw that Renjun had prepared a tiny picnic.
A small red blanket was laid out on the grass right under a cherry blossom tree, and from where they were, they had a clear view of the beautiful stars in the sky.
He looked over at Renjun who was looking down at his watch.
"Happy Birthday!" He then said, jumping up to hug Jeno who looked very surprised at the moment.
He looked at his phone. It was indeed, midnight on April 23, which just happened to be his birthday.
Jeno couldn't control the big smile that made its way onto his face.
"I wanted to be the first to wish you happy birthday," renjun said smiling.
Jeno laughed, "you're so cute, you know that?" He picked Renjun up and spun him around, making the other giggle.
The two were settled in a comfortable silence. Jeno took a while to just admire the beautiful landscape in front of him. And Renjun of course. Who, in Jeno's head, was even more beautiful than the view in front of him.
"I love you," Jeno whispered.
Renjun smiled. Four months ago, Renjun would've done anything to have Jeno out of his life.
Now, he knew that there was no way he would be able to live without him.
"I love you too," renjun replied, placing a gentle kiss on Jeno's lips.
