Chapter Twelve: Ready Ashton?
--------------------------------------------
“Ashton! What are you do-oing here? Yo-o u really didn’t n-need to come.... Well, come in.” I stammered before bursting into tears. He walked through the door, drawing me into his arms.
“Sh.... Calm down. You’re okay.... Sh! Seriously, what’s wrong? Tell me! I just came to see if I could pick you up for your appointment, but obviously there’s no use in trying that, now, is there. Okay, well, I guess we are going to have some comfort time.” He cooed, setting me down on the couch while he went into the kitchen to get something.
After a while he came back with a liter of Chunky Chocolate ice cream-which I didn’t even know that we had-and a big bowl of buttery popcorn; he set it down before going back to grab a movie. I guessed that we were having girl time, except to tell the truth, Ashton wasn’t quite as good of a friend as Lyssa would be in this situation, but he was awfully cute. I guess I could manage with him...
Sighing, I sat up as Despicable Me began playing. As I cuddled up to him, I realized that maybe(just in this situation of course) Ashton could be better than Alyssa. After all, it isn’t every day that a cute boy comforts you, I might as well enjoy it as much as possible. The previews had finished by the time I finished my thoughts, and before long, the ‘villain’
“Seriously, Ashton? How did you know that this was like my favorite movie! You’re really good at this cheering up stuff. How do you do it? You are a boy, after all.” I teased, running my hands through his hair. I couldn’t help it, his hair was just so beautiful!
“Well, I do have two sisters at home, and one of them just started dating, so she has one of these cry-times every two months. I’ve gotten used to it. Come on, smile again! You know, your smile is truly beautiful, it makes your eyes sparkle.” Was his reply, and then we both turned back to the movie, my cheeks burning red. I had found that Ashton had this effect on me; I couldn’t help it, he was cute after all.
Before long, both of us were clutching our sides in laughter at the cute little Agnes’ antics. My mom had been pushed to the back of my mind, and the only worries in my world was whether or not Gru would be able to triumph and then make it to the ballet performance as well.
Once the movie finished, I jumped up out of Ashton’s arms, however badly I wanted to stay there forever. “Thanks so much, Ash. I feel so much better now,” I stated, blushing to think about how a lot of that was the comfort of being so close to him. He smelled calming, like vanilla and pine.
He stood up, picking up our bowls from the ice cream as well as the big bowl of popcorn, still half full. “Good, then I did my job. I gotta run now, but I’ll see you later. Just remember, your mom’s cancer is not because of anything she did, and she’ll be fine, I know it. Call me up anytime, you know the number.” And then, once he dropped off the dirty dishes, he vanished. I saw his headlights reflecting on my windows, and then I was alone. That night, I fell asleep on the couch, snuggled in the blanket that he had wrapped around me so carefully.
When I woke up the next morning, I realized with a start that today was the dreaded day: Friday. Then, I remembered that I had classes that I couldn’t miss this afternoon. Noon had already passed, so I took my time getting ready; the class didn’t start until four o’clock. Once I had dressed in the closest things to me when I entered the closet, I spent fifteen minutes in the bathroom, applying makeup and straightening my hair, something that I had been doing ever since Lyssa did it for me one night and I realized I loved it that way.
