THE GIRLS WALKED into their classroom. As they did so, Caroline spoke up, "So we all agree? No more moping about life's little failures and no more dabbling the dark arts of boyfriends past. This is a fresh start."

Elena nodded, something in her eyes. "Couldn't agree more. I happen to love fresh starts."

Echo furrowed her brows, confused by her words, but decided to ignore it because it might've had something to do with Katherine finally dying.

Bonnie took the empty seat next to a girl with blonde curly hair. The girl had her purse on the seat and Bonnie asked. "Hey, do you mind if I share?"

The girl, without even looking at Bonnie, threw her own purse on the floor in an I-don't-care attitude.

Bonnie rose her brows and sarcastically said, "Great. Thanks. Appreciate it."

Caroline turned her body in her seat to look at all her friends. "Today is the dawning of a new era. This is stage one of our metamorphosis into the land of the brave, the free, and the single."

Echo rose a brow and chuckled a little. "Bonnie and I aren't single. In fact, I'm in a relationship with a man I love very much."

The blonde rolled her eyes. "But your best friends are single, which makes them single adjacent." She gestured to Elena and her. "So you guys can be our wingwomen." She then pulled out a flyer and handed it to Elena. "Whitmore's Annual Bitter Ball, a night to celebrate broken hearts, jilted lovers, and bitter singles.' This is our fresh start?"

Echo gestured to her sister. "Elena has been single for months... and she's not bitter."

"I don't want to be single," Elena commented and right when Echo opened her mouth, about to tease her about Jack, she sighed. "The bitter ball sounds amazing.

Caroline smiled brightly at that. "This is our purge, our cleanse. This is where we rid ourselves from the baggage better known as our tragic and mortifying first semester."

Cheerfully, Elena replied, "I'll drink to that."

As Caroline continued taking in the background, Bonnie noticed the girl next to her playing with her pen, twirling it on the seat's desk. But then, as she kept twirling it she noticed by hovering her hand over it without touching it.

Echo, on the other hand, was thinking about how different Elena seemed. Even her posture was a little different. It wasn't very noticeable, but for a person who is around Elena a lot, it seemed weird.

But, before she could speak up on the fact, Elena chuckled and looked over at Bonnie who looked in a daze. "Bonnie!"

The girl looked at Bonnie and saw that Bonnie saw her and she slammed her hand on the pen, stopping it.
