A NEWLY RESURRECTED Jeremy Gilbert, his older sisters, and Jack was sitting in the living room, rehearsing his cover story for school.

Repeating it back to her Jeremy flatly said, "There were issues at home. Ever since I lost my parents, my aunt, I've been acting out... drugs, drinking. I was looking for attention, so I lit my house on fire and faked my own death."

Elena paced back and forth, warning him, "Really stress the drug thing. And I'd definitely say that the fire was an accident, because that's crazy."

Really not looking forward to going back to school, Jeremy argued, "Or I could just not go back, considering my school already had a memorial for me."

"Do I have to go to school?" Jack asked Echo who turned to him with a raised brow.

"Yes, honey," she told him sweetly. "Damon compelled you to go into Junior year with Jeremy so you'll have a friend at least. Just stick by and protect one another, alright?"

Suddenly, a car horn honked outside the house as Damon carried a set of suitcase into the foyer. "Caroline just pulled up."

"I—I can't leave. I should stay and at least wait until Jeremy settles in to school–" Elena began to panic, but the Salvatore cut her off.

"You're leaving. You're going to college. You're gonna drink cheap beer and you're gonna protest things you don't care about. And I will take care of your little brother and nephew. Trust me—" Damon assured her, patting Jeremy's and Jack's shoulder. "—you have nothing to worry about."

The older twin sighed heavily, then looked at her brother. "Okay, well at least Whitmore is only a few hours away, so if there's anything you need, Jer, just call us–"

"Hey, I'll see you on laundry day." Jeremy interrupted, and hugged them tightly.

Echo kissed both Jeremy and Jack on the foreheads before making her way over to the love of her life. "So, how do you think this whole long–distance thing is gonna work?"

He grinned and pulled her closer to him. "Well, I personally plan on forgetting about you the second you walk out the door." He bent down and kissed her.

Jeremy saw them and gave a slight eye roll, though, a small smile did appear. Jack quickly looked away to give them privacy which made Elena giggle before pulling him into a hug.
