I wake up with a massive headache. Fuck.

I look around and I don't know where the fuck I am. Shit! Please tell me I didn't meet some bimbo at the bar and have sex with her last night.

I briefly look around the bedroom, some of this looks familiar. Weird deja vu moment. I see my clothes folded on the dresser and I quickly change into them. I tiptoe through the apartment and hear the shower running. Now's my chance to escape.

I have my hand on the door knob and then I hear her voice, "Leaving so soon?" I can literally hear her smirk.

You have got to be kidding me. So I did see Billie at the bar last night.

"Please tell me we didn't have sex last night." I say turning around. She's standing with a towel wrapped around her body, her hair dripping.

Her expression going from playful to irritated in a heartbeat, "No Hayden we didn't. If we did have sex, I'd at least want you to remember it the next morning."

I look around the room to keep from staring at her. She notices.

"Look don't go. Let me get changed and we can talk. Although, I don't get why you're uncomfortable with me in a towel, it's not like you haven't seen me naked before." she says and my cheeks heat up at her comment.

Moments later she returns, apparently ready to interrogate me because the first question out of her mouth is, "Why are you sleeping at the couch on your office?"

"Would you believe me if I said it's comfortable?"

"No."

I sigh, "My mom and Avery got a place together and my parents sold the house, splitting the money. My stuff is in storage at the moment. Ki and I aren't exactly talking with what happened with your brother, so I wasn't going to stay with her. You and I had broken up, so I wasn't about to run to you for help." I confess.

"Let me stop you right there... it shouldn't matter if we're dating or not for me to help you. I'd still help you even if I hated you." she says with sincerity.

I chuckle, "Is that your backhanded way of saying you hate me."

"I- no Hayden I don't hate you." she pauses for a moment before continuing, "You know what, move in with me. I technically have a spare bedroom, just a friend helping a friend out. No funny business. Deal?" she holds out her hand and I take it in mine. The moment I touch her, that's the same moment all those feelings come rushing back.

No, Hayden. She just wants to be friends. Don't fuck this up.

"Deal," I say with a grin.

A week later and I finally got all my shit out of storage. As I'm unpacking the last box I hear a knock on the door. Billie opens the door to reveal Zoe.

"What are you doing here?" I question confused. I thought Billie hated her.

"I could ask the same thing about you." she hisses right back.

"Fucking snake ass bitch." I mutter under my breath.

She glares at Billie, "I can't believe you're dating her after what she did to you."

Billie picks up a box and shoves it into Zoe's hands, "For your information, we're not dating. Just get your shit and get out." she huffs.

Once Zoe leaves I give Billie a look.

"Just don't. All you need to know is she was a rebound." she says in a low voice.

"I'm not blaming you, I probably would have handled it better if you had told me you messed around with my abusive ex." I say joking.

With that I see her bite her lip and tense her shoulders.

"Oh my god... you didn't." I shove her arm. "Please tell me it was to spite me and not because you actually thought that was a good idea?" I ask.

She raises her eyebrows, "Believe me it was to spite you, but-"

"Oh there's a but, this ought to be good." I sit back on the couch and prop my head up with my hand.

"But, it was also because I knew she could handle me, if that makes sense. I was angry, and somehow she knew it had to do with you. She let herself be a punching bag more or less." she confesses.

"You actually punched her?" I say shocked.

"No. That was a metaphor dumbass." she says with a mocking tone.

"I would have paid to see that... onto more exciting news, I unpacked the last box of my stuff. I think that calls for celebration!" I exclaim.

"Hold up I have the perfect thing!" she leaves for the kitchen and comes back with a bottle of wine. She pops the cork and takes a sip directly from the bottle before handing it to me. I hesitantly take a sip, I need to stay in control of myself around her.

Billie turns on a movie and gets up to grab a few things. She returns with snacks in hand. "We are getting wine drunk, and watching movies tonight."

After a few hours I wake up to notice Billie is asleep cuddled up next to me. She looks so peaceful in her sleep. I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket.

-Just checking in. Haven't heard from you in a few days. Doing ok?-

H
-yeah I'm good. got a little too drunk celebrating a friends engagement, but nothing bad happened.-

Layla 🩺
-Alright. Take it easy on yourself. Let me know if there's anything you need help with.-

H
-will do. thank you. for everything.-

I slide my phone back into my pocket and let out a sigh. I feel Billie shift next to me. I absentmindedly tuck a strand of hair behind her ear and I see her lips turn up into a smile, she's so precious when she sleeps. I go to pull my hand away but she gently grabs it and pulls it to her lips, placing a kiss on each knuckle.

"Billie, I..."

"Don't tell me you didn't feel anything the moment my hand touched yours when you agreed to move in. Don't tell me that you can't do this. I need you in my life Hayden." I hear her voice tremble as she speaks.

"You're right... so instead of pushing you away. Go on a date with me." I blurt out.

She sits up and gives me a questioning look.

"You heard me right Eilish. Go on one date with me, and let me prove to you that I'm worth it." I plead with her.

"Hayden you don't have to prove anything." she says cupping my face.

"I do. So let me."
