"This is so embarrassing...."
"I told you, if you're going to serve me then you really need to read. It's a basic skill that I require of all the servants, not just you."
"But this is a book for children!"
"So far they have all been for children, but it is helping you nonetheless."
A week had passed and the two of them were sitting in Chanyeol's bedroom, Baekhyun on the desk and Chanyeol hovering over him.
When Chanyeol had announced that he would teach Baekhyun to read, the servant honestly thought he was joking.
So when they returned to the prince's bedroom and he started to bring in piles of kids books, Baekhyun suddenly realized that he wasn't being mocked. The prince was dead serious to teach him. Ever since then, for about an hour a day, the prince would help him learn how to read.
Baekhyun still had a very basic understanding, but Chanyeol was noticing something odd about his reading.
He seemed to have the right idea, but sometimes he would mix up his words in the sentence or he'd flip letters around. Therefor, Chanyeol was trying to help him rely on context and what he think would make sense. This seemed to help, but they still had a lot of work to do.
"Your highness?" a palace servant knocked on the door and Chanyeol went to answer cautiously. The servant bowed and handed him a letter, her only words being 'from your father' before she scurried away.
Chanyeol frowned and shut the door, opening up the letter to see what was inside.
To my son,
I am still in negotiations with the neighbouring kingdom. The King is reluctant to let his daughter Princess Yuri become our Queen. I am still trying to work on this matter, but all is going well. I will be here another week or two in order to get everything settled. In the meantime, I want a respectable young man and future King upon my return. I am doing all of this for you and I don't want you to take it for granted.
She is a beautiful girl and if I were any younger I would have taken her myself! You need to appreciate what I am doing for you. Your kingdom needs you and they need a proper Queen, that is why I pick this girl myself. I went all the way to another kingdom for you. Do not disappoint me.
-Your father
Chanyeol sighed with annoyance and shook his head. Without a second thought he crumpled up the letter and threw it in a nearby waste basket. His father told him what he was up to, but that didn't stop him from feeling angry.
The rational part of him wanted to help the kingdom, but his heart was saying that he needed to find someone on his own. Someone he will love.
"Chanyeol? What's the matter?"
The prince looked over to see Baekhyun staring at him, and for a moment Chanyeol couldn't take his eyes off of the servant's. They shared an intimate look into each others eyes before Chanyeol coughed awkwardly, turning his head away.
"No need to worry....it's only my father...."
"Tell me."
