High school! AU

You and Chris had been friends for as long as you could remember. Two little kids running around in the front yard, screaming and laughing along the way. If it wasn't for your mom and his, you two probably would have never even knew each other. Probably one of the greatest things to come from your parents, old friends that also grew up together. Every weekend spent doing something together as a blended family. Weekends always had been your favorite.

First grade, it was like the teachers knew how you two would only open up and talk around each other. You guys probably came up with some idea to get them to put Chris in the class you were in. Always had been something you two did. Otherwise, you didn't speak much. You weren't you. A little dependent on him you guess, not the strongest suit.

Second grade, they learned the lesson from first grade. Chris was in your class, he was always around you. Never once leaving your side. The same goes for the rest of the grades. Inseparable kids who never even acknowledged any of the other kids around them. Too busy in your own world with each other to acknowledge the others.

Then middle school came around, still your bodyguard. A simple word that turned into a joke from the other kids, but he didn't care. If he was your bodyguard then he'll take it. You mean the world to him, he'll do whatever he can to protect you. He always walked you to your classes, waited for you after them and even made sure all the guys stayed away from you.

It's not like it's hard to notice that you had hit puberty, growing a chest and turning into an actual goddess. Goddess, might not be the correct word here. He always had thought you were beautiful.

He's supposed to you, you're his best friend. At least he thinks that anyway. Probably not a normal best friend.
Of course a month into high school, his interests peeked somewhere else as the year went along. It was unexpected. A part of you wishing that stupid childhood promise was a real promise.
I'll never leave you over someone else, Chris gives a toothy grin and raises his pinky finger in the air.

Giving your own grin, you nod and repeat the words adding in an i promise and linking your pinky finger with his.
It wouldn't have bugged you so much if it wasn't for another girl.

The girl who had taken over the world in his. Ultimately replacing you, taking the time with the only person who ever truly had your heart. The moment she came in, you had became invisible.

Well, in your eyes she did. Every one of Chris's friends probably knew how you felt. For fucks sakes, it wasn't hard to see that. If Ryan and Ricky, the two who stay in their own world notice it. Chris had too have, but he always had been one too not notice every single detail at first hand.

Even if you wanted to say something, tell Chris your feelings about it. How you feel the girl is no good for him, you decided not too. Your just the childhood best friend who will never get the chance to be near him like that. Something you will have to come to terms with even if you don't want too. He's happy and that's all you want for him even if it means loosing your own in the way.

He was worth it.

Seeing her hand around his waist or holding his hand, it's not what you wanted to see walking out from class. Ryan had to catch you, a little dramatic probably but no one else had ever been the center of his attention ever. It was a shock. Your head going back to the words your mom told you, "Chris is eventually going to find a girlfriend. You are gonna have to find friends that aren't him too.

You know that baby girl. Don't depend on him so much."
Little did you want to believe, she would be right.
