It had been 3 weeks, but Erik still couldn't stomach the idea that Christine was gone. In his mind, she was still there, everything, her voice, her body, it was still there, and it still belonged to him. The harsh reality was that she had left with the blasted Vicomte, and he couldn't change that. Still, he yearned for her, and impulse can drive you to do crazy things.
While she was still his, she slept in her dressing room, allowing him entrance to sing lullaby's to her in her sleep and bring on the illusion that he was her angel. Since she left, she had moved in with her Raoul in his lavish mansion in the heart of France, sleeping safe under his roof with him and only him. Until now, that is.
It was exactly midnight when Erik had arrived at the mansion, and it was storming so hard the foundation was swaying. Erik immediately looked for easy entrance, but the only door was guarded by two massive men, and Erik didn't want to stir attention with the sound of his Punjab lasso strangling them, so he looked for another way in. He snuck around to the side yard, finding a sturdy terrace leading right to a balcony, with a door to their bedroom. Cloaked in darkness, he started to climb, silently and stealthily as a cat. When he reached the top, he found a sight that made his heart skip a beat.
Christine.
All alone.

It was midnight when I heard stirring in the front lawn. I didn't want to worry Christine, so I slipped out of the room silently and alone. As I went down the stairs, the sound moved to the side yard, by the terrace. I glanced out the window next to it right as lightning struck, and almost had a heart attack when I saw the smirk of the masked devil through the window. I was going to yell, but covered my mouth as to not wake up Christine. I grabbed my jacket and lantern and went over to the side yard, grabbing my pistol on the way. I got out the door and went to the side yard, approaching the corner and readying my pistol, but when I turned to face the masked man, nothing was there. I approached the guards and asked them if they saw anything unusual, but again, nothing. I decided to go back in, but all the doors and windows had been locked from the inside, and none of the guards had a key.
Who had done this? I thought
No, It couldn't have been him, he's dead!
I tried to reassure myself, but couldn't shake the feeling he was there.
And what about Christine? If he came here, surely it was for her! I started to panic.
No, he won't take her
Not this time, angel of hell!

From the balcony I could hear the anxious Vicomte pacing around. That foolish fop! Erik thought, He wonders who had locked all the entrances, but only I, the master of illusion, could lock every door at once! I smirked at the sound of his disgruntled confusion, but then set my eyes on my true priority. My Christine, even in sleep you look like an angel.
I know she wouldn't like it, but I had to get her out of here. That insolent boy did not deserve her! I picked the lock as silently as I could, then nudged it open just a little as not to wake her. She stirred just a little, but was still in a deep sleep. So I opened the door and went inside, coat soaked from the rain. I found a rack and hung it up, then gazed at Christines sleeping form. She's so perfect, she deserves more than this dreaded world. She deserves all the planets and the stars, all of heaven and earth. Everything.
Part of me told me to keep my distance, but the other told me that I have to touch her. One last time. So I slipped off my shoes and slightly pressed on the mattress, testing if she would notice. Nothing. So I put half of my body on it. Still nothing. Then I put my whole form on it. She hadn't even noticed. She probably things I'm her little Vicomte, I thought in disgust, then she rolled over and put her arm around my waist, Maybe this time, it was okay that she thought I was her Raoul.
"Raoul, you're so cold." She whispered, letting her eyes flutter open. At first I was scared, but then realized how pitch black the room was, despite the occasional lightning flash, where she would harshly close her eyes. "Still afraid of storms, my Christine?", now her whole body was in my hands."They're just so-wait, Raoul, you sound different..", Anxiety filled up my whole body. "E-Erik?" She asked, terror rising in her voice. I was about to protest, when a flash of lightning betrayed me, filling up the room with pure light.
Her eyes widened with fear when she saw my masked face. "Erik! How did you-" but I cut off her question by putting my hand over her mouth "Shhh, Christine, I hear something". I listened closer, and the sound seemed to be a smashed window "Angel of Hell! Show yourself!" Raoul yelled in fury. Christine pried my hand off of her mouth while I was distracted. "Erik", she whispered,"You need to leave". She said those words so sincerely. I looked down at her,"But Christine, please come with me, you will be so much happier, we can sing everyday and I'll never take you for granted-" Then she did something that was the very last reaction I would expect, she kissed me! Right on the lips too!
"Erik", she pulled away, tears in her eyes,"I'm so sorry, but you know that I can't. We would never be safe, You would never be safe." I wiped away a stray tear that was falling down her porcelain face. As much as I didn't want to admit it, she was right. The Vicomte would never stop looking for her, and sending parties to execute me. "Very well", I looked down in shame, then smirked, "One more kiss for the road?". She smiled and kissed me again, this time for longer, until we heard footsteps coming up the steps.
I grabbed my coat and walked out the door,"Goodbye, my angel", Christine whispered as another tear fell. "Until next time, my love", I smiled weakly
And like that, I was gone, Where? No one knows. But I still keep my angel in my mind. After all, who could forget such a woman?
