Chapter 6

He noticed something falling out of his robes as he tossed the in his suitcase and realized it was the picture that they'd taken earlier in Muggle Studies. It had finished developing and showed Marlene from behind walking through a door. Her hair was wavy and looked golden in the dim light of the castle. He caught himself looking at it for a little too long and then but it into his Muggle Studies book so that he wouldn't forget to hand it in next lesson.

He didn't like this girl taking up so much space in his head.

5 September 1975

Lily was walking to her next class alone since Marlene had Muggle Studies and she had Divination with Slytherin. She would meet Severus at the classroom. The castle was busy and Lily almost felt like she disappeared in the masses of the students. She liked that feeling, sometimes it was exhausting to be seen all the time.

The quiet didn't last very long. The boy with the glasses and the every messy hair took a few big steps to catch ups with her. He ran his hand through his hair which probably mad him look cooler in his mind, he did non stop.

„How you doing Lil?", he asked, with a big grin on his face. She secretly thought it was kind of cute but would never let him know that.

„First of all don't call me Lil, second of all what are you doing here?"

„Accompanying you on your way to class of course. We will be great seating partners", he said, confident as always.

„Don't get your hopes up Potter, you know who I'll be sitting with."

„Oh of course Snivellus. Well for you I will even endure sitting with him."

She rolled her eyes. The attention she got from him never really made sense to her.

„Don't use that name or I'll hex you into oblivion. Are you really so insecure and immature that you constantly have to pick on others to feel validated?"

„Well you are lovely as always."

„I'm kind to people who deserve it. It's that simple."

„Well then I will be on my best behavior."

Lily didn't answer.

When they reached the classroom Lily saw Severus waiting for her. His eves narrowed when he saw who was walking next to her. She just ignored it and went to go inside the classroom, this childish drama was tiring. She sat down on a table with Severus and James took a seat on her other side as if it was normal.

„Today we will be burning sage and with the ashes we will be able to see the strengths and weaknesses of our partners. Please work together with the people on your table."

They got their sage and a plate from the teachers table and mumbling filled the classroom when the students started to set in on fire. 

„Insendia", James and her said at the same time, setting their sage on fire. Severus followed a few seconds after. When it burned down they exchanged plates, Severus gave his to James after a moment of hesitation and James gave his to Lily which left hers for Severus. She took out her book and looked for signs in the ashes. 

James pointed at his plate that had Severus' sage.

„This book says this", he pointed at something that looked like a sun, „is supposed to mean our dear friend here is smart, so that can't be very accurate. But wait", he looked at his own and pointed at what could be a rose, „that means beauty and that would obviously be really accurate for me. So I guess Snivellus is smart, I'm pretty and you're obviously both Lil. You agree right?" Now he looked at Severus.
