troubled - the marauders

Chapter 7

„So McKinnion I heard your birthday is coming up and your brother planned a party. I take it we are invited?"

Marlene looked at Lily, checking if she was comfortable with him being there. She gave her a little nod.

Then Marlene said: „With a really good gift I might consider to let you in."

James laughed.

„Maybe then you'd hate me less."

„Don't get your hopes up Potter", she said, but smiled.

They all laughed and Lily thought maybe they weren't so bad to be around. Then she looked to the other side of the lake and her blood froze. There sat Severus, tossing stones in the water and watching her laughing with the people that mocked him since his first year at Hogwarts. He looked at her and just shook his head in disappointment. She felt like someone had punched her in the stomach.

7 September 1975

Lily had noticed that Severus was avoiding her since he saw her with the marauders a few days ago. Whenever she tried to talk to him abut it he had to go somewhere else and the days they usually ate lunch together he just sat at the Slytherin table and didn't come to eat with her. But today was not about him, nor about her.

They had just finished Herbology and Lily hurried to the great hall. There she sat, surrounded by a group of Rawenclaws, just blowing out the candles on a cake that appeared before her. Marlenes eyes met Lilys and she ran towards her to give her a big hug.

„Happy Birthday Marls", Lily kissed her on the head and Marlene laughed.

„Thank you, look what Emaline made for me", she pointed at the cake.

Lily went to hug Emaline as well.

„I feel like I haven't seen you in ages", Lily pulled her a little closer.

„Are you ok?", she whispered in her ear.

„Of course, I've just been very busy with studying and my parents are really nervous at the moment so I have to write them a lot. I am actually meeting them in Hogsmead tonight so I can't come to the party. But you know, partys are not my thing anyway and I don't wanna worry them."

„Oh ok, but promise me we'll all hang out next week ok?"

„Of course, girls night next week!"

„I think this is it."

Marlene came out of the changing room in a pair of black cargo shorts with a white graphic tee tucked into them.

She looked into the mirror of the prefects bathroom. They decided to meet here before party to get ready together since they couldn't go to either of their dormitorys because of the house rules. Marlene lived in a dorm with Emaline and a few other Rawenclaw girls and Lily shared a dorm with a group of 4 Gryffindor girls that were all pretty close. She liked them and they liked her but she never got really close with any of them, except maybe a girl called Mary. However they never ended up spending a lot of time together because their friend groups were so different. She wondered if Mary would be there tonight.
