3RD PERSON
After a few weeks, Tony was able to start sleeping in his own room. It was amazing how long Steve managed to put up with not sleeping in his own bed, and Tony felt bad about it. If he ever tried to go to bed before Steve, he'd fall asleep on the sofa bed and wake the next morning in Steve's bed, with Cap on the pullout. When Tony inquired, he got a simple 'don't worry about it' as a response. A huge room clean and a few nightmares later, Tony was starting to feel a little better about the situation. He'd started to not think about Pepper so much, was spending less time in the lab (only a little)... he was able to focus on what mattered more - his friends, and, more importantly, how he could repay Steve.
The first thing he'd done was 'upgrade' Steve's uniform a little.
"Steve, I need to borrow your uniform for a couple days." They were sat eating lunch in the lab (Steve was making Tony eat) and Cap looked at him extremely confused.
"Why?"
"I wanted to make it bulletproof. You worry about me, I worry about you."
"Tony, you can't do that."
"It's not like the suit's vintage anymore. That's like the 4th one, we just remake it time and time again." Steve sighed and took a sip of water.
"I just don't see the point."
"All of my suits are bulletproof."
"That's because you're a flying thing that causes destruction."
"You're a thing that runs around on the floor that causes destruction, the same goes for all of us there is no way you're getting yourself out of this."
"Tony-"
"At least vibranium armour."
"That's a lot, Tony. There isn't a lot that we've found."
"More than you know of," he replied. Steve rolled his eyes.
"Minor modifications."
"Done." So Steve half-willingly gave over the suit and Tony got vibranium in and got to work. Like he promised, 2 days later, minor modifications were made to the suit and they weren't noticable if you were wearing it. Tony bought Steve down to the lab to show him what he'd done.
"Tony, is it meant to look different?" Tony chuckled.
"No. It's bulletproof now, you shouldn't be able to tell when you're wearing it." Steve bid his thanks and left Tony to it in the lab - he was constructing a new suit.
Night fell over Tony and it was about 4AM when he finally packed up and called it a day. He showered, changed and brushed his teeth before settling into bed.
He was walking around New York, making sure nobody he knew was hurt. His eyes hovered over gleaming red hair and he already knew. Nat. He cleared rocks off of her body and she grabbed his wrist.
"You did this to us, Tony." Then he looked around and his stomach dropped.
Bruce, Clint, Thor, lying on the floor. Upon analysis he found no heartbeats on any of them. He was missing someone, he'd only counted 4 people and he was the 5th... Steve. He was running around the streets, looking for an American Patriot, anything that correlated with the only person who could possibly be left.
"Steve, where the fuck are you," he whispered. Something white and blue caught his eye and Cap's shield was found, laying underneath it was Steve Rogers, his body curled up in an attempt to protect himself. All of them... gone.
