Steve's POV
Tony and I hopped in the truck at roughly 7:20.
"I know I said 7 but the thing I wanted us to do starts at 7:40 and it's only 10 minutes away. It's rush hour, though, so I gave us an extra 10 minutes for traffic."
"It's always rush hour, Tony. It's New York." He shrugged and pulled out of the garage. I looked at the billboards and leant my head against the window.
"I swear if you're tired I'm going to kill you. But we can get you caffeine, if you want," Tony said, looking over at me.
"Eyes on the road, Tony. And no, I'm okay. But thanks anyway," I replied. I was honestly assuming something like dinner at some restaurant that he found on the internet, but a few minutes later he pulled in at the 'Drive-In'.
"Hi, 1 adult 1 elder, please."
"Sir, I'm sorry. Neither of you qualify for an elder ticket, elder tickets are for 65 and over." I leant over towards Tony and whispered into his ear.
"Tony, I hate you."
"I know, Cap. I know. Um... 2 adults, here you go." The guy handed over the change and frowned.
"Have a good night." Tony pulled into a space and stopped the car.
"Tony, what even is this."
"This, Stevie, is the drive-in. They put on a movie, and you can sit in your vehicle of choice, for us the back of the truck, and watch it. It's a little more... atmospheric." I nodded and frowned.
"What's the movie of choice?"
"Well, we watched the Hunger Games yesterday, this is the second one."
"Huh." We got out and Tony sat on the back of the truck.
"C'mon, it's gonna be fun, Cap." He pushed himself back and I looked into the truck.
He'd (attempted to) decorate with I don't even know what, he'd actually cleaned the truck which was unheard of to be honest, and there was a picnic basket in the corner.
"Tony, what did you do."
"Welcome to our first date," he said, smiling. I was a little confused, but I sat down and pushed myself next to him. "You look concerned, what did I do."
"More like confused - what did you do?" I gestured around the truck where he'd placed blankets and a couple of cushions on the floor.
He cringed. "You don't like it?"
"I just never knew Tony Stark had a soft spot," I laughed. He smiled, grabbed a spare blanket from out of nowhere and pulled it over us before resting his head on my shoulder.
"I bought drinks and popcorn and food if you want anything," he said quietly. People had begun settling down and the film started. I shook my head and stared at the projector screen, watching intently as Katniss and Peeta went on their Victory Tour with Haymitch and Effie Trinket. Tony threw some popcorn at me.
"Excuse me," I laughed. He just looked at me and grinned - he looked pretty happy with himself.
"I don't have the best aim, I was just checking-" He had his back to me and was looking for something so I grabbed him and held him around the waist so he couldn't move. "Mature, Cap. Real mature."
"I mean, you threw popcorn at me." He was fidgeting to get out of my grasp so I let him go and he passed me a bottle of water.
"Since you don't like 'interesting drinks' I got you water," he said, cracking open a can of caffeine-free Coca-Cola. He saw the look I gave it and said, "I'm hoping to go to bed at a reasonable time. It's nowhere near as good as regular coke, trust me." He took a sip and gently put it down before placing his head back on my shoulder. I put my arm around his waist and my head on his and we sat in comfortable silence, watching the film unfold. Occasionally, we'd say something, or he'd give me something to eat (he made the most amazing dinner - I was 100% impressed, Nat had to have helped him), but I found the film quite interesting. I got to the point when they were setting the trap when I finally spoke.
"This isn't gonna go well," I muttered. Johanna was wrapping wire around the tree with Katniss. "It's not gonna work very well, it-"
"Steve, calm down. It's gonna work, relax a little. You're stressing me out," he laughed. I smiled to myself and fell quiet as the huge battle unfolded, Johanna ripped Katniss' tracker from her arm and left her for dead. What the hell? Johanna wanted to overthrow the Capitol, not kill the only person who could hurt Snow! I was (evidently) extremely confused and didn't say anything until the film finished.
"Okay I'm confused." Tony lifted his head up and looked at me.
"Johanna saved Katniss..." he began to explain the ending of the film in more depth and I gradually understood more and more of what just happened. I nodded to show my understanding and Tony took a sip from his carton of orange juice that he'd opened halfway through the film.
"Still on the orange juice, huh." He shrugged.
"It tastes better than the OJ from a bottle."
"Fair enough." He yawned from a second and then looked up at me.
"I wanna take you somewhere. C'mon, get back in the truck. I'll tell you when we get there." We put everything down so none of it moved, shut the back of the truck and got back in, and Tony began to drive. I kind of ignored everything we were going past, I didn't see the point of memorising everywhere we were going past. Finally Tony pulled up to somewhere and turned off the gas.
"We're here," he smiled.
