The Old Draft/Character Commentary-

-Shuichi's POV-

           "I did it. I asked Ouma to be my boyfriend, and he actually said yes. No one has ever liked me this much before. Even when Kaede and I were dating, she didn't really love me. That's because she didn't know me and she still doesn't. But Kokichi does, he knows plenty about me. Not everything, but he doesn't know that yet. He doesn't need to know about middle school Shuichi, like the one that was sent to the psychiatric care facility. He doesn't need to know what I was like back then, because I've changed. I shake all of that from my head and squeeze my new boyfriend tightly in my arms."

Hey, it's me Starlight!

So, this was the draft for chapter 14. As you can see, Shuichi's character was going to be more developed and we were going to get more of a past insight on him. My original plan was to make his character a stalker, and I'm talking Joe from the show "You" type beat. Shuichi was going to be batshit crazy and a Kokichi's stalker. His past was going to be very sad/traumatic following his parents' deaths (His parents were not good to him and this connects to his plot armor and how he carries himself) and his overall spiral into detective work and the beginning of his Hope's peak experience. His crush on Kokichi and his overall journey with his stalking and sexuality was going to be the main point of his character development. He was meant to be the level-headed character who everyone respected, very static, and overall just chill, but secretly he's actually the opposite. Most of the point of his character is how well he carries himself and hides his true intentions, yes he truly does love Kokichi, but Kaede was merely his pawn to get to where he truly wanted to be. His actions aren't the best, but his intentions mean well.......most of the time.

          More in Depth: Kokichi is actually the most light-hearted character of the story. Although he was made out to be the carefree one, he always is the one to care the most. He is big on impressions and putting on facades if he deems necessary and is unable to cope with being himself in front of people. He's mostly anxious, but he has a heart of gold and a childish spirit. He loves strong and is big on family. He had parents that weren't the most supportive of him when they were around, but he didn't let that affect the way he was towards others, if anything it made him a better person. He learned to treat everyone better, when they were finally dead, it was liberating for him, he could truly be himself. He wears his heart on his sleeve and when he doesn't have on a facade, he is truly and honestly himself, this shows his full character. Yes, he is a depressed teenager in most of the story, but aren't we all?

Kaede.....I purposely made her unlikable....I'll admit it. If you ended up liking her by the end of this, I don't know-how. She's meant to be a quiet, but mean girl, granted in the analysis, you'll understand that Shuichi was just using her, so they were both in the wrong. Kaede ends up with Rantaro or was meant to, I honestly can't remember if I added that background couple in, but they definitely are a thing. Rantaro is a very background character that played as an older brother figure to Kokichi as they knew each other. He's very much a "Daddy's money" kid and a frat boy at the same time. I was meant to expand on his relationship with Kokichi and their brotherly love along with the romantic implications with Kaede.

       Maki and Kaito were just vibing. Yea, they were meant to be the static unproblematic couple. They're very bias toward each other and their friends. Obviously, Kaito was meant to be a super-smart Himbo. For crying out loud, he's a fucking astronaut, he has to be smart, but he's also Katio and an Idiot in love so,,,,,deal with it. Maki was meant to be super smart with a tall guard for everyone but Kaito, she too is an idiot in love. I meant to expand upon her and Kokichi's friendship and falling out but we know how that went.

     Now for missed out chapters. There was supposed to be a beach chapter, a prom chapter, a carnival chapter, a Christmas one, many date chapters, a graduation chapter, and a bunch of flashbacks. There was going to be gore and so past Shuichi snaps in the current day, lots of jealousy and angst. Also, there was gonna be a Maki/Kaito chapter exclusive for those enthusiasts.

Now that all of that is covered and out there, I'm willing to answer any questions y'all had/have about what was meant to happen or characters or even headcanons for this book, but this is all I got for now.
