It was 6 in the morning. This time was a bit early to head to school, but Kageyama wanted to get a little serving practice in before classes start. The October Qualifiers were just around the corner, and there was still so much to improve on.
Inhaling the crisp morning air, the raven-haired setter started the walk to Karasuno High. Glancing towards your house, he wondered if you've returned for good. You were away for a long time and he was curious as to how much you've changed. He hoped any change wasn't too drastic for him to not be able to cope. He sincerely wanted to reconnect with you because to him, you were one of the very few he considered as friends, if he had any at all.
Making friends used to be so easy for him - or at least that was the case before he reached middle school. Then a lot of things happened and before he knew it, he was unable to form meaningful relationships with others anymore. Volleyball was the only thing he became good at - the only thing that held real meaning for him. Ironically, it was the same thing that pushed his middle school teammates away.
Shaking his head to get rid of the negative thoughts, he hastened his pace. He was going to concentrate on his tasks today. He couldn't afford to get distracted. Focusing on practice was only way he could get to the Spring Nationals.

Your alarm went off at exactly 6 am. You turn it off and groggily sit up in bed. The early morning sunlight was streaming through your bedroom window. You stretch for a bit then stood up to get ready to start another day.
You go downstairs to the kitchen and make sandwiches for lunch. There were downsides to starting school late, and one was the amount of schoolwork you had to catch up on. Last night, you were just to knackered to cook.
As you pack the sandwiches you made, your thoughts drift to a certain raven-haired boy. You wonder when you'll get the time to pay him and Kazuyo-san a visit. Your mother called you after school the previous day and she'd inquired after them. You promised her you'll visit them soon. Plus, the thought of seeing Tobio again gave you a warm feeling, like the one you'd get if you ate strawberry shortcake on a lazy Sunday morning.
You walk out of your front door with a smile on your face. You were back home and you were looking forward to the things you'll get to experience here. The possibilities were endless.
Lunch time came around and you and Yachi were eating together. She was the very first friend you made in class. You liked her a lot - she was very easy to get along with and had an amazing personality.
"Have you chosen a club yet, (F/N)-chan?"
You paused from eating and gave it a quick thought, "I think I wouldn't choose anything else except the music club, to be honest. I've filled out my application form last night."
Yachi smiled. "That's great! I'll show you where the music room is later before I head to the gym."
"What club are you in, Yachi-chan?"
"Oh, Tsukishima-kun and I are in the volleyball club. I'm not really good at the sport, though, so I joined as a manager."
Your eyes lit up at this. "Really? I have a friend who really loves volleyball. But I'm a bit scared of balls flying towards me, so I guess I wasn't much of a playmate when we were little. The thing I might be able to say I'm good at is playing the piano."
"I know, right? I feel like my arms would fall off if I try to play the sport." You saw the girl physically cringe beside you. "But it's really great watching the team play. You'll know what I mean when you see them, so maybe you could come to the gym sometime."
"I'd love that, actually," you replied. "It'd be nice to find something else to enjoy besides music."
"I want to hear you play your piano soon as well, (F/N)-chan."
You and Yachi talk about a lot of things until the bell rang. You put your lunch boxes away and got ready for class.
The rest of the day passed by uneventfully. After class, Yachi walked you to the music room as she promised earlier. You met the music club adviser Ms. Ito and the rest of the club members. It didn't take too long for you to fit in, and this made you happy. You were in your element, and you felt you belonged. The grand piano in the middle of the room was beckoning to you, and you were never one to ignore its call.
"We stayed a bit late again, didn't we, guys?" Yachi commented as they started walking from the club room.
"Sorry, Yachi-san," Hinata smiled sheepishly. "But thank you so much for helping us."
"Oh, no no, I didn't mean it like that, Hinata-kun."
"It's okay. Bakageyama here kept changing the speed of his tosses. That's why we couldn't get it right for a long time."
"Whaaaat??!!! Are you saying it's my fault, you dumb-"
"Hey, guys, can you hear that? Someone's still in school as well." Yachi stopped and looked up at the school building. "It must be coming from there." She gestured towards the single illuminated window.
"Isn't that the music room?" Hinata commented. "It sounds like a piano."
"Ah! It must be (F/N)-chan! I'll get her so she can walk with us." Without waiting for the two boys to reply, Yachi ran into the building.
Upon hearing this, Kageyama stopped in his tracks. Did Yachi really just say your name? Were you here at Karasuno?
"Oi, Kageyama! We'll finally get to meet the new girl." Hinata was grinning from ear to ear. "I bet you'll like her."
The setter totally ignored the orange-haired boy. He was staring at the window, caught up in his own thoughts.
"Fine. Ignore me all you want, Bakageyama," he grumbled.
The moment the light from the music room was turned off, Kageyama's hands started to sweat. He could feel feel his pulse quickening, and all he could see was the doorway from where you would be coming out.
Soon enough, he could hear girls' voices and approaching footsteps. He could make out two shadowed figures coming towards the door. He could feel a heaviness in his breathing. The hand gripping the strap of his bag tightened.
When the two girls finally stepped out into the moonlight, his eyes immediately landed on your face. His blue eyes widened when they met your (e/c) ones. Even the closest evenly played games didn't make him nervous. But this time, it seemed his voice refused to leave his throat.
Yachi made introductions but he didn't hear any of them. Hinata seemed to be talking as well but he was oblivious to it. He was having tunnel vision for the very first time in his life, and he was focused on you.
"(F/N)."
A smile formed on your lips when he said your name. You were feeling a myriad of emotions but you didn't have time to pay attention to them right now. The only thing you could seem to direct your attention to was the tall boy in front of you. A warmth swelled inside your chest and the smile on your face widened.
"Hello, Tobio-kun."
