Say yes

You fidgeted as you sat in your living room. Tobio was sitting across from you, typing away on his mobile phone.  You were both waiting for Hinata and Yachi who dropped by the convenience store on the way to your house to buy some drinks for your study session. You were becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the silence and decided to put an end to it.

"You might be hungry from practice, Tobio-kun. Would you like something to eat? I made cupcakes."

The raven-haired boy looked up from the illuminated screen of his phone. A hesitant smile formed on his lips.

"Yeah. I'd like one," he answered.

You could feel your cheeks starting to heat up. You'd never felt so awkward around Tobio before as you did now. What was taking Hinata and Yachi so long, you wondered.

"O-okay," you said as you got up and headed to the kitchen. You let out the breath you didn't know you were holding once you were sure you were out of his sight.

You took a moment to compose yourself before going back to your living room with the said cupcake. As you set the saucer with the snack down in front of him, your gazes met.

The whole scene suddenly felt intimate, as if a wife was serving her husband a treat after a long day. It was clear as day on Tobio's face that he was thinking the same thing as well.

Your breath caught in your throat and your heart thumped so strongly in your chest that you were sure he could hear it. Him suddenly taking hold of your wrist didn't help at all.

"(F/N), there's something I want to ask you," he said as his eyes held yours. His grip on your wrist tightened a fraction. You thought his hand felt nice and warm.

"W-what is it, Tobio-kun?" It was a miracle you were able to get those words past the sudden lump in your throat.

His eyes scanned your face for a moment, as if he was unsure of what to say. You waited and and tried your best not to look away. This was Tobio, the only boy you were ever comfortable with.

"The qualifying games are in three weeks," he started hesitantly. "If we make it to the finals.."

You nodded when he trailed off, encouraging him to continue.

"If- no, when we make it to the finals, will you watch our game? I'd r-really l-like it if you did." Tobio was sure he had a really embarrassing blush on his cheeks, but he had come this far, he wasn't going to back away now.

He'd mulled it over the whole night last night, and he finally came to a decision that he wanted you to be there when they played in the finals. He couldn't explain what he was feeling, but at least he knew what he wanted for now. To add to the things he couldn't figure out, your answer to his invitation suddenly became very important.

He didn't want to look away until you gave him your answer. He wanted you to say yes, and he realized he wanted it badly. So when you started to nod your head, he felt a weight being lifted off of him. A warm feeling invaded his chest.

"I-I'd really like to come, i-if you'll have me there," your answer made him smirk. He felt nice and relaxed now.

"I just said I would, dummy."

He let go of your wrist just as the doorbell rang. His eyes narrowed. Those two certainly took their time.

The study session went smoothly last Saturday and you were happy about the progress Tobio and Hinata were making. You and Yachi were sure that if they continued doing what they were doing now, they'll pass the upcoming exams with no problem at all.
