So, I know this is a bit last minute, but if you're not doing anything, I wondered if you wanted to come over for breakfast? I'm doing waffles.
There was a pause.

I'm really sorry Becs, I can't - I'm already at my folks place. Scotty and I drove up first thing this morning
Becca
Oh, don't worry. As I said, it was a last minute idea

I would've loved waffles
Becca
Well, maybe another time. So where are you now? Is that a tannoy that I can hear in the background?
Chris
Yeah. I'm at the grocery store with Scotty
She heard Scotty call 'Hey Becs' in the background

Scotty says hi

Yeah, I heard. Hi Scotty

Mom sent us out to get some last minute holiday shopping

Sounds fun

Not really. I gotta go though, because we're in line and the cashier's nearly done

Can I call you back in a bit? Probably be about an hour

Yeah sure, I'll be here for the next few hours, then I'm going in to work

She ended the call, feeling more glum.
'He can't make it then?' Viv asked.
'No, he's already at his folks place for Thanksgiving.'
'Never mind - you did the calling and the inviting, that's the main thing.' Ella said. 'Now where are my waffles?' She added, making Becca smile.

Chris called back a little over an hour later, as she was clearing up.
