Infinite basically stormed over to one of the lawn chairs at one of those backyard tables and fell down on it. I just waltzed over to him and pulled a chair over and sat down.

Infinite: That fucking guy. Who the fuck does he think he is?

Me: Clearly, he's Crusty Sean. But he isn't as powerful as us.

Infinite: Clearly. Now, I wanted to bring this up to you, and you might not like it.

Me: Fire away.

Infinite: You know how I was the captain of the Jackal Squad?

Me: Yeah. You told me that.

Infinite: I didn't think I did. Well, one of the members... was my sister. She...

I think anger built up in him, because he slammed his fist onto the table.

Infinite: DAMMIT! If only I could've saved her.

Me: Well, I'd feel the same way. It's hard losing the ones you love.

Infinite: She was the only fucking person I cared for. I raised her better than our parents did. Abandoned at 7 and 5. What do you think of that? Left on the curb, only hoping for a miracle. But, it never comes.

Me: Damn. That must've been hard.

Infinite: Try big city alleyways. You know how fucking dirty those streets are. Try living on them for a year and a half, with a sick sister who could barely walk. It was never fun.

Me: Infinite. I... I never thought you'd be through that much.

Infinite: I was young. I barely remember what happened there. I just... want something good to happen to me. You know, that feeling that I'm loved by someone.

Me: I've felt like that many times. You don't know what happens until you do. And what you do, it's what changes you. Flips the whole world on its head. I can't remember much about my past, but I was kind of hoping you'd help tell me.

Infinite: So that's why you're here. Well, I'll tell you when I know you've been here enough. One night isn't long enough. I'll give you at least a month. Then I'll tell you.

Me: Thanks, Infy.

He scowled at me.

Infinite: Don't call me that. Anything but that name.

Me: How about... infidget?

Infinite: I swear, you better sleep with one eye open if you're starting that fucking shit.

Me: Rookinite.

Infinite: I warned you once. I'll rip that ruby out of your chest right now. That ship is dead.

Me: Okay. I'll stop. So... what happened that night?

Infinite: Well... it was about a year and a half ago. Me, sis, and the other two were hired by Eggman to be like private mercenaries for him.

Me: Couldn't he BUILD a mercenary?

Infinite: Don't know why he'd risk his neck for hiring mercenaries when he can build robots. Anyways, it was a nice night in Mystic Jungle. I was out doing some recon, when I hear my earpiece buzz. The boss told me to meet back up at the lab. So, I get there, probably five minutes later, he tells me my squad was useless, and I had to clean up after them. I'm standing on one of the pillars in the corner of the dirt, and I see this Hedgehog. Black, with a red stripe on the top of its spines.

Me: I think I know who that is.

Infinite: Don't interrupt me. Now, I see him, and I see this... this scowl on his face. I shoot myself straight towards him, but he warps behind me and kicks me into the air. Sends me up, then crashing back down into the same pillar. While recovering from what happened, he struts over and tells me the words I still haven't forgotten. "Don't show your pathetic face around me again." It didn't settle within me well. He warps somewhere, and I pick myself up. Dust myself off, and start processing what he said. It hurt me.

I could see the tears in his eyes, but he didn't bother with them.

Infinite: I thought about what he said, and I knew he was calling me weak. It hurt me. One of the best Jackal mercenaries, lost to a puny hedgehog. I stormed into the lab, and grabbed the mask and put it over my head. I had hidden myself away from everything and everyone. Next day, I head out to try and find the squad. You won't believe what I saw of them. My closest friend, Ivan, he had his back against a pillar, a stone shard wedged in his skull. I slid over to him, asked him what happened. He only told me to care about Emma. I didn't want to leave him, but he was right.

Me: Holy fuck. You lived worse than I did.

Infinite: Did I say you could interrupt? But, I asked him where she was, and he waved his hand over to the metal door. I ran over to her, and rested her body in my lap as I examined what wounds she had. Split skull, torn open in a few parts, and she even lost a few of her fingers. I pressed my fingers against her neck, hoping she had a pulse, but I felt nothing. Tears filled me as I cried out in pain, anger, and despair. I swore revenge on that hedgehog, and from that day, I never stopped. I want to kill that fucking spiked prick in cold blood.

Me: I didn't know I was friends with a psychopath.

Infinite: I didn't know I was friends with some bitch who committed sudoku and left the only girl he loved in his life broken-hearted.

Me: I saved her from the monster inside of me.

Infinite: Well, now you know my true backstory. I know your backstory, but I'll not tell you until you are ready to be told.

Sean: Jackal! Order's up!

Infinite stood and walked over to the truck to grab his food. He came back not ten seconds later with a tray that held a burger, fries, and a cola.

Me: Well, it's good to hear what you've been through. And I understand it. You survived Hell, and you want revenge.

Infinite: Don't we all? Let me finish my food, then I'll take you down memory lane.

Me: Sounds good to me.
