I ripped open a portal and hopped through, closing it behind me, right in front of the Square, where Marie waved for me. I ran over to her and nodded.

Me: What happened?

Marie: It's Meggy. No time to explain, let's go.

I could hear the worry in her voice. She grabbed my hand and pulled me over to the sewer that led to the Canyon. She slipped right through, and I followed suit.

10 minutes later...

I flipped right out of the sewer and ran over to Marie, where she waited for me by the cabin.

Me: Could you tell me what happened?

Marie: Come on.

She slid the door open and stepped inside. I hopped through the frame and shut the door behind me, admiring the beautiful craftsmanship that lined the walls. Beautiful paintings and even a couple wooden benches in the main room, where the two Octopods, Serina and Desti, were chatting away. I just followed Marie back to one of the three lonely doors at the end of the main hall: One left, one right, one middle.

Me: Which one where?

Marie: The left one, locked from the inside. Meggy's been in there for an hour now. I don't know what she's doing in there, but I know it's not good.

Me: Check the kitchen drawers.

Marie: For What?

Desti: We may have a problem.

We both looked at her. She also had a nervous look on her face.

Me: What is it, Octopod?

Desti: Don't call me that. Anyways, there's a knife missing from the block.

I instantly went into panic mode. I quickly banged on the door a few times and rapidly twisted the doorknob, but to no luck. It was locked, and nobody was answering.

Serina: Look, I thought it was in the dishwasher, but then I realized that SOMEBODY doesn't like using technology to wash shit.

Marie: Yeah Yeah, fuck you too, Serina.

Me: Now isn't the time to discuss who's going to get dick once we're done here. I want to know what happened.

Desti: I don't know. All I did was see her shut the door, and she hasn't been out since.

Marie: A bizarre action, indeed. Anything else happen?

Serina: I'm looking through her phone right now. Apparently she's been texting the old crew. Wanting to have a meetup sometime soon.

Me: We can worry about that later. Right now, we need to get this door open.

Marie: Just pull the door down.

Me: How about a Shining reference?

Serina: Ax the door down.

I shifted my tail into a fire ax and hit the door a few times until I could barely reach in and unlock the door from outside in. I reformed my tail and pushed the door open. What a sight I saw. Blood on the floor next to Meggy, who also laid still in a puddle of slowly expanding blood. I just stood there, hand over my mouth, absolutely stunned and speechless, tears dripping down my cheeks.

Marie: Four? Are you... crying?

I silently nodded and walked over to my girl and kneeled next to her and held her cheek in my hand. She was still as the night, and as expressionless as a blank painter's canvas. I softly pressed my head against her chest, but I couldn't hear anything. I just hugged her body and cried my tears. She was gone, and even though I could bring her back, it still stung.
