*This is a poem about the literary classic Lord of the Flies *
Beast, lift your ugly head
Give us your rotten wisdom
Like a song hummed by the flies
Breathe your death so we can taste
Let us play under your canopy of fear
Tales woven by firelight; masks aglow
Death hunts life until life forfeits
So we hunted with death
Our shadows led us; almost in front; almost beside
So we joined the dance; savage as it was
But no one knows
No one sees the smoke
We see you beast though only at night
You hang there stuck in shame
Too scared of yourself to breathe
You; man in the tree we worshipped as the beast
Laughed at us for our folly
Save us from ourselves from our fear
Before pebbles become boulders
Chasing our innocence
Painting the ground beneath us
With scattered rose petals, we bled
Lord of the Flies speak to us
Tell us who we are; we never knew
You know as much as life
A second before death; a second after
Form a halo around the one who knew
And send him off to sea; too far to reach
