Madison Anderson pulled onto campus with her parents in the car behind her. They parked outside her dormitory and got out. She picked up her phone and called her best friend Natalie Reed.
"Hey I'm here!" She said when Natalie picked up.
"Okay I'll be down in a second!" Natalie said excitedly.
The two blondes had been friends for basically their whole lives. From kindergarten to their now sophomore year of college, they had been hooked at the hip. They had mostly all the same interests, and even had the same major. Madison wanted to be a choir teacher and Natalie wanted to be a general music teacher. Madison and Natalie were known for their wonderful singing voices, but Natalie had more instrumental talents than Madison. Madison only played the piano, while Natalie seemed to be able to pick up any instrument and know how to play it. Many pictures could be found of them giving different "concerts" in the front living room of either of the girls' houses.
Natalie walked out of the building and Madison squealed with joy. The two girls embraced in a hug.
"Have you seen Emma or Katherine yet?" Madison asked as they pulled away.
"No, but they should be over tonight so we can practice for tomorrow."
The first day of class was something special for music majors at Central Valley University. It was the time when students taking the vocal classes had their first performances of the semester. They picked or were assigned to group of four and had only a little bit of time to practice together before the first performance on the first day of class. Of course Madison and Natalie for the second year in a row had picked their now best friends, Emma Williams and Katherine Miller. Emma was a short brunette who actually was only minoring in music. She was really good at gymnastics and wanted to teach gymnastics, as well as hoping to go big, and, as every athlete wishes for at some point, go to the olympics. Katherine meanwhile was a bubbly musical theater performance major with dirty blonde hair. She hoped to get on Broadway. Her voice was fantastic and she was very friendly. Once she knew someone's name she would never forget it and always treated everyone like a friend. She was genuinely a nice person to who wanted the best for everyone in everything they did.
Natalie and Madison started pulling out boxes while other students around them did the same.
As Madison was pulling something out of her car a girl walked past, "Oh my gosh I love your hair! Outfit too!" Madison said. The girl she had said it to had short blonde hair and was wearing a t-shirt and shorts.
"Thank you so much!" The girl said. The girl was surprised anyone would like such a casual outfit.
"There you go again," Natalie said teasingly.
"What?" Madison said back, confused.
"You're just always complimenting your fellow woman," Natalie said.
"Women are beautiful and deserve to be told so!" Madison said sternly to the girl.
Madison had never dated a boy, and never seemed interested in boys, but also never had explicitly come out as gay. To Natalie, Madison seemed clueless in the dating realm when it came to anyone. She never seemed to notice when they were flirting with her, no matter if it was a man or woman. That being said, Madison also didn't realize when things she said would come off as flirting to other people. Everyone in Madison's friend group thought she was gay, but they never wanted to ask directly or force the sexuality onto the girl. They all agreed they thought she'd come to it naturally when she met the right girl. All her friends even knew what type of girl Madison liked. She liked girls with shorter hair, who wore more masculine attire, however, they wouldn't classify her type as a butch. The girls Madison liked had to have a bit of femininity. She usually liked girls the opposite of her, with very different interests. When she'd make a new friend she'd make their interests her interests. Madison never seemed to do that with the boys she'd meet, though.
Mr. and Mrs. Anderson looked at one another when they heard what Madison had said. They, too, had a feeling she was gay, but after talking to Natalie, they had decided to let her figure out her sexuality on her own. They knew their daughter was clueless in most aspects of dating anyways. She never seemed to understand the lines between things friends do and things friends don't do. She was always surprised when a guy she was talking to would admit to liking her. She never saw it coming when everyone around her saw it coming from a mile away. She was a thing of beauty, she could date literally anyone she possibly wanted to, but she never even seemed interested to. The closest she had come was to a boy named Michael in high school. She had gotten really close to him, and was confused when he told her he liked her. He had stayed around for awhile after that. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson thought they might date, that they had been wrong all along, but when Michael finally got the courage to ask Madison out, she turned him down. Michael was too embarrassed to stick around after that and the two had grown apart.
Madison, Natalie, and Madison's parents carried their things inside and went to the elevator on the right hand side on the lobby. They went up the third floor and Natalie opened the door to the dorm room.
"Oh my gosh I love it!" Madison squealed when she saw what Natalie had already put in the room.
"I hope you don't mind taking that bed," Natalie said pointing with her head to the one on their right.
"Yea it's perfectly fine!" Madison said. She was excited for a new year of school and a new room to get used to. This dorm was way better than the freshman dorms they had lived in the year before.

Madison, Natalie, Emma, and Katherine all gathered together in Madison and Natalie's dorm room to practice. Luckily the song was a song they were familiar with, so they weren't worried in that aspect. They always felt bad for the freshman who, coming in, would get a song they didn't recognize. It made it their first performance harder. They empathized with them because that had been them their first year. Madison and Natalie had known one another, but didn't know anyone else. They were placed in a group with Katherine and Emma and, after spending so much time together that semester, the quartet stayed together. They had become really close and gotten to know one another, and they all got along so they stuck with it.
Emma was particularly nervous for tomorrow. She always felt she was the worst in the group because she wasn't actually a music major and had less time to practice her music stuff. The other girls always insisted she was just as good, but she never felt that way. The professors always seemed to be harder on her than everyone else since she did practice less, and sometimes it was evident that she had practiced less. Emma did enjoy singing, but she mainly took the minor as something to do. She never expected to get placed into a group with musical geniuses who were way above her ability and superior in looks by a far stretch. At least that's what she always thought. The girls still loved her equally to everyone else and always encouraged her when she was feeling down. The only thing about her is that sometimes she was bad at social cues and was a little blunt about some things she would say.
The girls practiced and practiced until they felt ready for tomorrow. They parted ways in hope of getting some sleep before their classes in the morning.
