Chapter 3

The tree starts to deteriorate as she walks away and the ground starts to shake like crazy. The smaller dog falls off the others back. By the time the bigger had noticed the path back had disappeared. I run back and grab the puppy and yell to the bigger dog "Meet me outside." Watern runs alongside the dog and quickly fade into the smoke walls. I look around, clutching the puppy, and see that there is only one path I can take. I'm definitely taking that path no matter what happens. I take a step back to get a running start. I take off and run down the zig-zag shortening road. The last little bit falls away so I make a jump for it. Halfway there, 3/4 there. 1 more inch. I miss. Wait, we made it... but not naturally... Who cares, right now we can leave.

I run into the smoke and as it gets darker the ground shakes less and less. "I like you. So I'll let you be the one to end this." I hear the little girls voice as if she was walking next to me. Suddenly I awaken from a sleep that I didn't know I was taking. I knew I was dreaming... I'm on an ambulance. And the puppy is in my arms covered in soot and ash. And now I know for sure it wasn't a dream. The 2 medics riding with us look sicker than me and the pup.

"You...were dead. Stone cold dead... For 20 minutes... No. Pulse. Whatsoever. Your dog was too. You were clutching him so much that we couldn't bring you back if we tried." The medic quickly checked my pulse. "But you are definitely alive now."

The other medic chimes in. "What does death look like?"

My response is "A woman." The men both laugh. In a way, I'm glad that the medics are all men. If there were a single woman on that ambulance I'm pretty sure she would of done something in response to that comment.

"So we have a funny guy here that beat death." I turn around to see a light skinned woman with a bunch of tattoos on her right arm and a nose piercing. My first thought "Seriously." The medic reads my face and says "Don't worry she's practically one of us."

"Yeah, It seems you don't really like talking about women."

Weird for her to deduce that. Even though its 90% true. The pup wakes up and yawns. He takes a look at me and starts wagging his tail. Then he turns to the medics and starts wigging out. Barking, yelping, scampering  and a bunch of other dramatic maneuvers were being pulled out this scared puppy. We trap him in a corner and his hair starts to stand as if someone has rubbed a balloon on him for 3 days. I start to see sparks fly off his fur as he gets into a defensive pose.

"Step back." I say to the 2 men as i push them back with my arm. The guys seem to ignore me as they smirk and creep closer to the pup.

"Shame on you, man, for being afraid of this tiny pu-" as if in response to his comment I see hundreds of sparks pop off his fur. Its as if all the hairs on his body is metal and quickly rubbing together to put on a light show.

The 2 medics, out of fear of not knowing what is going on, jump back and bang their heads on a bunch of medical equipment. We pull into an emergency room driveway. The woman in the front jumps out the van and hurries to the back door. I lay the men on the gurneys and help the woman get them out of the van. 2 other personnel come running out the hospital and are stunned by the rare sight of a boy covered in black helping a medic pull another medic into the hospital as if it was my job.

I quickly snap them out of it. "Yo guys theres another one in the back." I yell as the puppy makes a long jump from the back of the van to my shoulder. This is no normal puppy.

I follow the chick through many hallways and in a matter of 30 seconds we arrive in an empty room. She looks at me and points with her eyes to the bed. She starts to lift her coworker slowly as I abruptly pick him up and   throw him on the bed. He almost fell out of the bed but the woman caught him.

As she properly puts the medic on the bed she goes on to say something very surprising.
