Chapter 6
The ride so far is silent. The puppy is surprisingly the one who broke the silence, barking on top of my head. I pick him up And place him on my lap.
I notice that a few sparks are falling off him.
"We never went through a proper introduction."
"What do you mean?"
“I mean I never got you or ‘spark’s’ name. Or rather I never named the puppy till now. What is your name?”
“Name’s Lily. Nice to know you have some manners.”
I look at her kinda shocked and a little angered. “What do you mean ‘Nice to know you have some manners?’
"Your 1st thought of me was 'its a dude so who cares if i talk about woman.'"
“That makes no sense whatsoever. YOU knew I was talking about that....girl. Not you."
"O... Yeah"
We go back into silence.
I break the silence this time. But not on a good note.
"I did think you were a lesbian though..."
She looks at me as if trying to pick something off. She then turns back around and says "nerd"
Spark starts to laugh.
I take him off my head and place him on the ground. He starts to panic but I leave him be. But his yelps got louder and fiercer. Wait. He's crying. He's in complete fear. Lily pulls over and picks up Spark.
Once again he quickly relaxes himself like nothing has ever happened.
"This dog is afraid of the floor... Thats not something you see every day." Lily says.
Now that I think about it spark was riding the others back. "I'll carry him for now on. I just need a backpack to carry him in." I tell Lily as she scatters and looks for one. I didn't know ambulances carried bags.
"Here you go," Lily hands me a red backpack with a black cross on it. "Its a prototype that I made. I thought about how firefighters would carry an oxygen tank into a fire so my idea was practically the same. Bring the essentials needed to save a person."
I pick up Spark and put him in the bag. His head sticks out the top. I throw the backpack over my shoulders and look at Lily. She stares back. It’s strangely obvious that we don’t know what to say to each other. So we keep the stare going for a good minute. What breaks our stare-down is the sound of a horn blaring past us. We both get up and sit in the front of the van.
I quickly forgot that i put Spark in the bag and accidentally smash him between my back and the seat. I swing the bag onto my lap and we get back on the road. Five more minutes later we are alone on the now abandoned highway that everything had happened at.
