--

Elijah had taken Lily home that night, offering to stay with her. He could tell she was upset, and he didn't blame her.

So, Elijah held Lily that night as she cried over Alaric's death. He held her until she fell asleep, and even then, he was afraid of falling asleep himself. He wanted to be there for her when she woke up.

The next morning, though, Elijah left, knowing Lily would want to be with her siblings. Plus, he had to make sure Klaus and Rebekah hadn't ripped each others' throats out while he was gone.

Lily, Elena and Jeremy decided to paint Alaric's room, considering he wasn't going to be using it anymore. They decided to paint it an olive green color, even though they had no idea what they were going to do with the room.

"A little darker, huh?" Stefan's voice caused the three siblings to turn around, confused as to why he was there.

"Only color we had." Elena explained, painting her section of the room as she glanced at Stefan, who was leaning in the doorway.

"I don't suppose anyone tried to talk you guys out of doing this so soon." Stefan replied, walking over towards Elena as he looked around at the paint.

"We just need to keep moving forward." Lily spoke up, offering a small smile to Stefan, who nodded slightly.

"Need a hand?" He asked, knowing it wasn't smart to leave them alone at the moment, considering how much they had lost.

"So, are you two back together or something?" Jeremy asked, turning to face Stefan.

"I was just checking up on you guys, seeing if there was anything I could do after.. everything." Stefan replied, looking at the youngest Gilbert, who rolled his eyes slightly.

"We're fine. But, if you're trying to be the good guy again, why don't you do the right thing and give us one day? Just one day without any vampires in it." Jeremy added, walking over to Stefan. Lily was surprised at his outburst, but knew he was just exhausted from the recent events.

Lily and Elena both stayed silent, and Stefan didn't know how to respond.

Jeremy sighed softly, realizing he wasn't going to win, and walked out of the room.

"I'll go talk to him." Lily spoke up, glancing over at Elena, who nodded. Lily walked out of the room, heading downstairs to find Jeremy.

Before she could, though, the doorbell rang. She furrowed her eyebrows, confused as to who would be visiting them.

Lily opened the door, only to be met with Damon and Bonnie, who was covered in blood.

"We have a problem." Damon stated, looking up at Lily as Stefan walked downstairs, looking over at Damon.

Lily let them in, leading them to the kitchen so they could take care of Bonnie's wound. Lily sat down next to Bonnie as Stefan grabbed a wet rag for her neck.

Damon explained that Alaric hadn't died, he had actually turned into a vampire.

"Wait, so he's not dead?" Lily asked, shocked at what Damon was saying, considering how upset she had been over the whole thing.

"I thought you were standing guard." Stefan stated, walking over to Bonnie and handing her the rag.

"Don't blame me, Bonnie was the one who fed him." Damon replied, sighing as he stood up.

"I had no idea what was happening. The witches led me there. They wanted him to feed so he would turn." Bonnie explained, clutching the rag against her neck. Lily was still processing this, shocked that Alaric wasn't dead.
