Out of reflex, I grabbed Kyoya's arm and pulled him out of the way, just barely in time. Unfortunately, since his dad's hand no longer had anything to make contact with, his hand collided with my head, yanking the hair pin out along with a few strands of hair. The pin fell to the ground, me right after it.

"That's enough. You need to calm down, Father." Yuichi said sternly, turning his dad around and walking him in the other direction, away from us. Akito followed them while Fuyumi reached her hand out to help me up. Kyoya picked up the hair pin and stared after his dad before grabbing my arm and pulling me away.

"Kyoya, where are you going? You can't just leave the Gala!" Fuyumi yelled after us, right when I realized that the room was quiet and everyone was watching us. Kyoya stopped and turned back, glaring at her and obviously angry.

"Watch me." Kyoya kept pulling me away out of the room and into another hall. My adrenaline burst had finally started wearing off and the pain from the slap began setting in. Instinctively, I reached my hand up to feel it, slightly wincing from the pain, just enough for Kyoya to stop and turn to me.

"Are you ok?" He asked with complete worry in his voice. He stopped and let go of my wrist, moving my hand and turning my head to inspect it. "I shouldn't have even invited you, I'm so sorry, Haruhi. This is my fault, I should have just made you stay h-"

"Kyoya, it's not your fault. Stop over thinking things." I knew Kyoya kinda had two sides to him, one where didn't care much about anyone and only did things if he could gain from them, the side he always wore. Then the other side I knew of, where he didn't care if he would gain anything from an action. But this side wasn't one I'd seen before and I couldn't stick a name to it. It's like he's had all this anxiety all the time that he's just kept bottled up.

"Come, I'm gonna take you home." He grabbed my hand and, this time, walked me over to the garage, grabbing a set of keys off a hook and unlocking a car.

"Wait, you're going to drive? Kyoya, you aren't old enough, what if you get pulled over? I can just call a cab, I'll be fine." I argued, pulling out the phone the twins gave me but he stopped me and opened the passenger door.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned this in an earlier chapter, but in Japan you have to be 18 to drive and while Kyoya is 18 in the manga, he's 17 in the anime and that's what I'm going by.

"Get in, I'm driving you home." I gave in and got in the car, Kyoya closing the door behind me. He walked around and got in the drivers side, starting the car and putting it in reverse without even putting his seatbelt on.

"Kyoya, our your seatbelt on. That's a sure way to get pulled over." He stopped and reached to put his seatbelt on then turned to me.

"I'm sorry for even inviting you, if my father wasn't here, it would have been fine. I should've just made you stay home despite what my father said." So that's it, he was just following his dad's orders.

The drive back to my house was completely silent, neither of us said a word. It was already dark out when Kyoya stopped in front of my apartment and got out, walking over to my side to open the door for me.

"Kyoya, I don't want to get in the way of your future."

"What are you talking about?"

"Well, your dad already has a future set up for you, you'll be able to be successful and own a business. But not if I stick around."

"Haruhi..." He paused and took a deep breath in. His hand that he had placed in my shoulder moved to my cheek and made me look up at him. "Are you.....are you sure?" I shrugged his hand off and looked back to the ground.
