𝅘𝅥𝅮Like Real People Do - Hozier

(Lapis's POV)

The sheets intertwined along my limbs, as I stretched my arms out spreading the cotton fabric along with. Afternoon glow shined through the windows and onto the bedframe and wooden flooring as I moved my hands to block the rays from my squinted eyes.

Last night was an emotional blur, last I had remembered Peridot had almost been hit by the cab I was riding in back to her. We made up, sniffles and tears all included before heading back into the vehicle. It had been such a long roller coaster of a day that having her presence next to me was all I needed to drift off into sleep cuddled into her shoulder with her pine scent covering the taxi's leather seated smell.

As my eyes adjusted to the light I leaned over onto my shoulder to peer onto the side of the bed. It was empty but a few pillows laid out amongst the bedframe, Peridot was nowhere to be seen and as I turned my attention towards the other side of the bed to look out onto the vans flooring she was still out of sight with no sounds to indicate her presence.

"Peridot?" I meekly called out

Silence.

I coughed into my arm before calling out in a higher tone while pulling my legs from the bed and onto the cold floor "Peerriiddoottt?"

Once again no response back. I began walking across the van towards the bathroom, knocking gently on the door before pulling it open to reveal the small bathrooms layout. There were no other places she could've possibly been. As I promptly shut the door and turned my back to it I walked over to the counter opposite of the bathroom, where a once hidden yellow sticky note sat next to the coffee machine.

I pulled it from the counter bringing up to my face as I read the neatly inked scribbles

"Good morning Lapis. I have work today at my new job 'Dragons Keep'. I'll be home sometime in the late afternoon. See you then! - Love, Peridot"

A blush creeped along my face as I read the last two words 'love peridot' repeating it over and over again in my head as I set down the note on the counter, walking towards the drawers under the bed. I reached for a simple black crop top, laying it over my shoulder before reaching for a pair of worn down blue jeans in the drawer beneath and began to walk towards the bathroom to change.

After a few spare minutes, I clicked the bathroom door open, walking out in the outfit with my jeans cuffed and my muddy black high-top converse tied above my ankles loosely. I threw my dirty clothes into a nearby hamper, and reached into the handle of the vans door, opening it up to expose the vans interior further to the suns rays, stepping outside onto the familiar gravel shutting the door behind me with a click.

The city was definitely different during the day, consistently busy throughout any time of day or night but currently packed with vehicles that honked relentlessly as screeches from rubber tires on hot concrete could be heard down the bustling streets. Last night on my walk to that coffee shop I had remembered passing a shop with an identical title as to what was written in Peridots note. 'Dragons Keep', a unique name that's not easy to forget.

So I continued on from the van, and past multiple rushing people as they sped walked past me from both sides. It was a few minutes of the sun shining down on me as my hands intertwined with my bangs pulling them back as I swiped away sweat onto my forearm. The store had to be somewhere down the block from last I remembered as my eyes glanced across the bricked buildings before laying upon a corner store. There it was!

As my casual walking sped up I reached the doors of the building taking a deep breath in before opening one of them and stepping in. Hopefully Peridot would still be working.
