Divergent Her

Chapter 25

Tris POV:

I hear gunshots. I get nervous because Christina isn't in here and everyone went home. I am alone. I hear more shots. I need to know what's going on. I quickly get dressed into running clothes because I need to be able to run if I need to. I grab a jacket and quietly leave my apartment. I stay quiet in case whoever is shooting is near me. 

I round the corner and I see Zeke and Uriah shooting paintball guns. "Really guys?" I ask. "What?" Uriah asks. "Why are you playing with paintball guns this late at night?" "Why not?" Zeke questions back. "Want to join?" Uriah asks. I smile. "Why not?" I follow them through the Pit to a place that has paintball guns and paint balls. They hand me a gun and some paintballs.

"Ready, set, go." Zeke shouts and we all run in different directions. I run towards the Chasm. I am going to hide in me and Four's secret spot. While I hide they will get one of them out and then coming looking for me. I will will have the element of surprise. When I reach the Chasm I see Lauren. There is no way she will let my by without doing something to me.

I need to be brave though. I am Dauntless now. I run towards the door that leads down there and I think that Lauren maybe didn't see me or didn't care to follow me. I feel a tug on my arm. I turn around and Lauren has a hold on my wrist. "What is it Lauren?" I ask. "Stay away from Four!" She growls. "Why Lauren?" I ask her. "Because I love him and he is mine." She says. I am taken aback. She loves him? Does he love her? "Why did you bug him about me and try to have a break with him? Otherwise he probably wouldn't have broke up with you." I say. 

I let my own words sink in. If Lauren had made some little mistakes they would still be together. I don't think he would be over her yet. Which would make me the rebound. I am a rebound. And I guess it would only be a matter of time until he would end up with her. If they love each other. "I know he loves me." Lauren says. "He told me before and I just didn't want to lose him. We have fought worse before so, it's only a matter or time until he comes back to me." I look down. He loves her. Not me. 

I run. I run straight to the train tracks. I am a member of Dauntless, so I won't get in trouble if I leave the compound this time. I wait and soon a train comes. I get on and I sit. I am not a person who cries. I haven't even known him for a long time. But he felt special. I get off the train when I reach Erudite. I remember coming here after Four yelled at me when I was in Lauren's landscape. I told Caleb that I didn't fit in Dauntless. I also told him to research some serums. Wait those are the serums that my mom told me about to tell him. On Visting Day. She knew something was going to happen. I wonder if Caleb listened and researched them. 

I walk through the compound and go to the desk. I know Caleb is not an initiate anymore, so I should be allowed to see him. "I need to see Caleb Prior." I say to the man. "At this hour?" He asks. "Yes." He looks down at his computer. "Take the elevator and go to floor four and his room is 46B." I nod. When I reach his room I hesitate to knock. I need to talk to him. I knock and a couple of seconds later he opens the door. It seems like he was awake because he is fully dresses and looks awake. 

"Beatrice?" "It's Tris, but yes." I say. "What do you need?" Caleb asks. "Can I come in?" He nods and opens the door. He leads me to the couch. "What is it?" He asks. "Remember those serums I asked you to research." He looks down. "Yes." His voice sounds nervous. "Did you find anything about them." I ask. "Um... Yeah. They try and make your brain more suggestive to change." He says. "Oh. Well I found the serums." "What?" He looks alarmed. "Yeah they were planning on using them to start a war. They were going to use the Dauntless to fight. I found the serums and destroyed them. I also reported the people to Candor." I say. "Why would you do that?" He ask angry. "Because they were going to hurt people." I say standing up. "Well now you hurt Erudite." He says standing and yelling. "They were going to hurt our parents. How could you possibly take their side?" "It's my faction. Faction before blood." "Caleb!" He said that. Faction before blood. He doesn't care about me. "Beatrice. Erudite should be in charge we are smarter then Abnegation." "You know what? I have no left in my life who loves me besides OUR parents now." "Well go to them." He yells "Fine." I run out his door. I run to the tracks. I run by them and then finally a train comes.
