Going to Hogwarts was always the plan, or so she thought so anyway.

It was to be a home away from home, but while still having to deal with her brother.

She was only 18 months younger than him and still had to live up to his expectations.

Even though she barely saw him.

"Alright Katherine, you've got your wand and your luggage" her mother checked over, looking over the young girl to see her ex-husband, she bit back a scowl and continued. "Remember to ask your brother to use his owl so you can mail me, okay?"

The eleven year old girl only nodded in reply and soon got shocked away onto the Hogwarts express, the wall she ran through earlier still left adrenaline running through her veins.

She wandered through the trains corridor to find an empty carriage, there was no way she was going to sit with her brother as he talked about quidditch plans (again).

Kathy almost gave up until she noticed one with a shy girl curled up to the window seat, looking as though she was about to cry.

Without another word she forced open the carriage causing the girl to turn her way in fear.

"Hello" the words slipped gently from kathy's mouth before she could stop them, she smiled sweetly and shut the door behind her. "Do you mind if I sit in here with you? We could even be friends?"

And with that said, the shy brunette-haired witch brought a bright grin to her face before nodding ecstatically.

Kathy returned the gesture before taking a seat opposite her and placing down her bag beside her.

"I'm Kathy Woods" she introduced, even sticking her hand out.

The other girl grabbed in hesitation before shaking it, "Charlotte Longbottom"

"Pleasure to meet you" Kathy nodded politely before pulling her hand away, she had to admit that the girls palms were sweaty but it was probably the same nerves that she had.

She gleamed at the girl before starting a conversation about Hogwarts, and even a bit about there family's.

Kathy was confused on why she lived with her grandmother, but she was in no position to judge nor pry.

"I do have an older brother, even though I don't live with him and my father. His name is Oliver woods, he has a weird obsession with quidditch" Kathy responded to the 'siblings' question.

Charlotte responded with bringing up her younger brother Neville, who should've been joking in two years.

"I suppose I'll be in Hufflepuff, they tend to be more like my..lack of bravery" Charlotte gulped, after Kathy had asked about what house she'd like to be in.

"But, what do you want to be in? The hat takes that into mind" Kathy pointed out and Charlotte smiled up at her.

"Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, just to prove everyone wrong! They think a Longbottom could never" Charlotte said excitedly, making Kathy smile.

"I don't mind I suppose, maybe something other than falling into my family's legacy. Break the chain type of thing" Kathy responded, she did think it would be interesting to see her parents reaction.

But, she was also scared to find out.

"Well, I'm glad I made a friend before arriving at Hogwarts as a stranger" Kathy grinned at the shorter witch, who gave her a meekly smile.

"Thank you, Kathy. For being my friend" Charlotte thanked her, which made her feel better than her original mood.

The train soon came to a complete stop and they scurried off with their bags.

When they jumped off the train they caught sight of a giant.

"Fir'st years this way" the giant shouted and Kathy began to tug Charlotte along until they reached the boats.

The boats moved themselves along the lake and awes filled the first years as the castle came into view.

"Woah" Charlotte and Kathy sighed in unison, causing them to turn to each other and giggle.
