As the person approached Trance, a smile grew on his face. I told him not to smile in public, but if everyone is frozen and someone is trying to kill us, then I guess it would be appropriate.

I crept around the corner of the wall to get a better look at the idiot trying to follow us. She had shining blue eyes. Cold as ice. The blood in my veins froze. My heart couldn't handle the pressure of her stare. She wasn't even looking at me. But Trance wasn't fazed at all. He kept his stance with a flawless intimidation of his own.

"What do you want, bitch?"

She wore black, knee-high combat boots with a matching set of booty shorts. Her hair was a fluffy, black bob. A skin-tight crop top emphasized her curves. I would've though she was a completely normal person if it weren't for the four horns sprouting out of her head. Her voice was cool and snake-like.

"Oh, come on! We haven't seen each other in sooooo long! Why do ya gotta treat me this way? How's the new pet? Did you potty train it yet?"

She took a comfortable step forward.

"Shut the fuck up, Deumos, and get the hell out of my sight before beat the crap out of you to the point where you can't even utter 'mercy' anymore. And you know why we haven't talked."

"Just because one of my subordinates almost killed your pet doesn't mean that I told him to. He has a mind of his own. The poor idiot chose the wrong prey that day. I just want-"

Trance slowly lowered his arms. The pressure continued to build exponentially as the two carried on their conversation. Trance interrupted.

"I don't give a rat's ass about what you want! Who's your host? You can't be on the surface if you don't have one."

She tilted her head slightly and grinned, exposing a set of pointed teeth.

"You met her earlier."

I heard something move behind me. I tried to run, but a rod hit me on the top of my head. I could feel the blood rushing down my scalp. My head resisted, but I turned to look at who it was.

"I'm sorry darling. Did that hurt?"

Susie wasn't wearing her sunglasses. A matching pair of bright, blue eyes lit up in the dark alley. Her silhouette seemed to be more powerful than the fragile, old woman running a restaurant.

I knew she wasn't blind!

My head healed shortly after the hit, but I pretended to still be injured. I'd hate for Susie to whack me again with her cane. What the hell is that even made of?! It felt like a stick of concrete!

"Come on, darling. I know a love tap like that won't even stun you. Get up and fight like the demon you are."

There she goes again with the demon thing! I brushed the dirt off of Trance's coat. It'd be a shame to hand it back all tattered and gross.

"What do you mean? I'm not a demon. I'm a human. Just like you."

"You're nothing like me. Don't you dare mock the human race. You have no right! Not the bastard child of a demon and a human!"

"What did you say?"

"A half-breed like you should just shut your trap and die!"

Trance butted into our little conversation.

"Shut the hell up, old hag! You don't have a fuckin clue what she's been through!"

My head ached as if someone shoved a bomb in my ear, and it exploded with an overwhelming amount of information. I didn't want to think anymore. Me? A half-demon?

I internally screamed for my nails to grow longer and for my demon powers to awaken. Almost immediately, a familiar pulse of energy rushed through my body. Was Trance lying to me this whole time? I am a fuckin half-demon!?

I collapsed to the ground, landing on my legs. My long nails dig into my face as I gripped it with all my might. Don't look at me. I'm a monster. I was about to start crying when I heard a sound. Similar to someone drawing a sword. I took a peek from between my finger to witness her cane reveal a secret weapon from inside. A long rapier covered in blood stains.

Out of reflex, I jumped backwards. I guess I used way too much force and ended up crashing into Trance. Susie came running towards us, charging with the sword in front of her. She was surprisingly fit for her age. Trance threw me into the air, leaving him to deal with the old hag. His eyes lit up with a dark red. Susie stopped cold in her tracks. As I came down, I thought I was going to splat on the ground, but Trance caught me with little to no effort. I looked up at his face. His broad shoulders and strong arms held me up with ease. His eyes threatened the two attackers from getting any closer. I blushed at the thought. You have really bad timing, Scarlet. Reeeeally bad timing. Trance and I disappeared from the scene.

When we arrived at our destination, the world was still frozen. He set me down on a park bench. My bench. This is the park where we "first" met. Why did he bring me here?

"Do you want something to eat?"

"I ate not that long ago. Why're you asking right now? We were in the middle of a fight."

He sat down next to me with a heavy sigh. Trance took off his bowler hat and set it on his lap. Then, he turned his body to face me.

"Why aren't you bombarding me with questions like you always do? Are you scared to find out the truth?"

I slammed my fist on the bench table.

"No! But we could've ticked another serial killer off our list! Although, I'm wondering why you took us here instead of letting us fight."

"You're in no condition to fight right now. We need-"

"How do you know!?"

"Because you're crying!"
