Tumaas ang kilay niya sa'kin and I did the same before turning my back. Bakit? Hindi niya ako naririnig mag mura dati? Then today would be his first.
I wanted to flick my hair pero nakatali pala ng buo ang buhok ko. So I just strutted my way to the elevator, my chin held high. Sumakay ako nang bumukas ito, pushing the close button numerous times para hindi siya maka sakay but then he ran and stopped the doors from closing.
Napataas ang kilay ko.
"May escalator doon." Hindi siya sumakay at itinuro ang escalator habang nakakunot ang noo. He looked worried for me. That move should make my heart flutter pero naiinis lang ako sakanya.
I looked away, I shouldn't even look at him because he's married.
"I'm fine." Tumaas ang kilay ko nang hindi parin siya gumagalaw. "Are you going in or not?"
Natauhan siya at mabilis na pumasok. My breathing hitched when I realized we were the only ones inside the lift, but then may pumasok pa na dalawang lalake kaya nakahinga ako ng maluwag.
The guys spared me a glance before resuming their conversation with one another. I think they're friends.
Ako naman ay nakatingin lang sa harap. Nakikita ko ang reflection ni Gabriel na nakatingin sa'kin but I kept on ignoring him.
"Are you okay?" Goosebumps rose upon my skin hearing him talk near me at tumango lang ako.
He's probably confused why I'm not on the floor hyperventilating from my claustrophobia. Well, that's because half a year after we last saw each other, I started going to therapy again and did my best to overcome my trauma.
It wasn't easy to do.
But he doesn't need to know the things I did to distract me from thinking of him and to remember that I'm doing this for myself.
When the elevator reached the floor, taas noo akong umalis pero nararamdaman ko pa'rin ang tingin niya sa'kin. I gritted my teeth, remembering we're on the same table kaya magkasabay kaming naglalakad papunta doon.
"Gabriel!" I turned around at nakitang napahinto siya dahil sa mga kakilala. He looked at me when he was being greeted by our batchmates and then he smiled. Kumunot ang noo ko. What the heck?
When he's distracted, nagmadali akong bumalik sa table at sinamaan ng tingin si Hana.
"You told me Gabe won't come, eh sino siya?" I whispered harshly and eyed Gabe's direction.
Hana followed my gaze and smirked, "My bad."
"Oi Gabriel's here!" I stopped glaring at her when Juaquin shouted and stood up to greet him.
Rotcehlei, together with Francis, eyed me cautiously, so I pretended I didn't care, sipping on my pink champagne nonchalantly. Hana patted my shoulder nang tumayo na rin sila para salubungin si Gabriel at ako lang ang natirang nakaupo.
"Kamusta si baby Trevin?" Napataas ang kilay ko sa sinabi ni Francis. Trevin? Is that the name of Gabe's kid?
Alam kong nagkikita silang lahat na hindi ako kasama, and that's why they know what's happening in each other's lives. I get it, they became his friends din naman when we were studying together, but why do I feel like I've been betrayed by my own friends?
Gabriel cheated on me and impregnated another woman. Hindi ba dapat sa side ko sila? This is so unfair, they should be on my side!
Napailing ako. I'm not this immature, but I get so frustrated every time I think about it.
