Danielle's P.O.V.
"Christ"
I was yanked into my seat at lunch the minute I got off the lunch-line and to our table.
"Alright spill everything, you've been hiding the truth for two weeks, what is going on with you and Daniel?" I opened my mouth to answer, but Emily interrupted, "And I don't want that stupid 'he's my best friend, we're hanging out even though I secretly like him' shit".
I sighed, "Look Em, it's a really complicated issue, and I really don't-"
"Stop" She interrupted, "This isn't complicated, you're making it complicated. This is a very simple matter. Look it's like this: Girl meets Boy...again, Girl likes Boy, Girl tells Boy and they live happily ever after. The end".I dropped my pen, as I was scribbling away on my notebook, "Emily, it's not that simple, I mean I like Daniel, a lot, but exactly how do I know that the feeling is mutual. I don't wanna get rejected, or get my heart broken. We're bonding well enough as it is, so I think it's best we stay friends. Hopefully this is all an infatuation and the attraction fades away soon".
"But Danny" Emily complained, "Why do you call it an infatuation huh? An infatuation that lasted for maybe five years, or probably longer? Come on Danny, I don't know who you're trying to convince with all that, but it's not me, and it's definitely not you".
I let out a sigh, "Then what Em? What am I supposed to do? Just keep hoping that one day I'll get the courage to tell him how I feel? We both know that's not gonna happen soon, so just leave it okay?"
I said, turning back to my notebook. She watched me as I wrote furiously in my notebook, then she grasped me in a hug, "Danny, It's okay to feel down, just don't lose hope". She let go of me and then chuckled, "It's really weird seeing you this down, I mean he really has an effect on you".
I shrugged, "I guess so, but it's hard not to when he has an amazing personality and looks like that everyday". I nodded towards a spot in the cafeteria where he was talking to someone.
He caught my eye and acknowledged me with a smile and a wave which I returned back."I mean he's standing there like freaking sex machine, not to mention his understanding nature, eyes that just bore into your soul and a smile that sends shivers down your spine and leaves you flustered, how could anyone not be affected?"
Emily cleared her throat, "Well I'm not affected, he's not my type".
I opened my mouth to say something but she cut me off, "And oh my gosh, you didn't even gush over Justin like this, it's weird to see this from you, I mean, you're supposed to be a boy" She shoved me playfully."I am a girl and I'm allowed to be a girl every once in a while, let me be" I shoved her back and we laughed as Sam and Daniel approached the table.
"What are we laughing at? Is it Emily's inability to do anything progressive without a pencil or paintbrush, if it is then I'm so laughing at that". Sam sneered, taking a seat beside Daniel, opposite us.
She narrowed his eyes at him, "Prick, you can't even come up with a good insult, that was so lame, I'm gagging out last night's dinner".
He threw a fry at her and I spoke up before they started a food fight-one that will NEVER end well- "Okay, lovebirds, get a room, no fussing over fries. You can continue your banter in the comfort of each other's arms".
Daniel chuckled at the statement, Sam mumbled to himself, picking at his food and Emily typed away on her phone. I nudged her, "Hey Em, you okay?".
She nodded, "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?".
When Emily says that, it's best to let her be alone so she doesn't dwell on it for too long. She's not one to get mad easily, but lately, she and Sam have been having heated arguments, even though they think I don't notice. My friends really can be dumb at times.
