CHAPTER IX: "IS THAT THE ONLY THING YOU WANT TO DO WITH ME?"

Danielle's P.O.V.

"SHUT THE FRONT DOOR"

I covered my ears as Emily's yells echoed throughout the entire house, "Why are you just telling me this now?" She asked, crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes at me.

We were at the basement of my house, just hanging out since the boys had extra practice that day. My mom was working late, so Emily and I, with Kyle who was in his room, stayed home hanging out and doing homework together. It had been a while since Emily and I had girl time, so it was kinda necessary and we were having absolute fun.

That is until I blurted out the fact that Daniel confessed his feelings for me.

I mimicked her posture, matching her gaze, "Since you decided to keep me in the dark for almost a year about you and Sam, I decided a little payback was necessary".

Her eyes fell and I noticed they looked guilty. I mentally patted myself on the back and laughed internally.

When she wouldn't meet my eyes, I nudged her and smiled, "Come on Em, you know I would never judge you about that, don't go all sad on me okay? You already have a boyfriend, we're talking about me here".

Her lips lifted slightly and she sighed, "Okay, so tell me everything, leave nothing out".

I narrated the story to her and as I spoke, her eyes lit up like a kid who just set her eyes on her favorite chocolate bar.
Once I was done talking, I took in a deep breath, bracing for the worst. I took the couch pillow and covered my ears with it as Emily squealed the loudest "DANNY" I had ever heard.

Once it was quiet, I took the pillow off my ears and asked, "You got it all out?" And she shot me a look.

She took my hands on hers and looked me in the eyes, her eyes full of genuine happiness, "I'm really happy for you Danny, honestly". Then she poked me, "I told you it wouldn't be that hard, so when's the first date? I'm gonna help you get ready for it".

I blinked, "What date?".

She face-palmed herself and mumbled, "Amateurs", Then she spoke up, "He told you he likes you, and you returned the feelings, he should have asked you out by now, seeing as you waited three days before telling me" Then she paused, "Wait, he didn't ask you out did he? I'm so gonna knee that fucker in the freaking balls the minute he gets h-"

"I didn't tell him" I blurted out.

She stopped abruptly, her hands paused in mid-air, "What do you mean you didn't tell him?" She asked calmly.

I looked down playing with my fingers, "I didn't return the feelings, I just sat there frozen and didn't say anything in return".

I buried my head in the crook of my arms as I started to get agitated. I took in deep breaths to calm myself down, then I felt a hand on my back, "Come on Danny, it's okay for you to have froze, you didn't expect it. No one is judging you Danielle, calm down".

She left me there and went up the stairs, then returned a few minutes later, two bowls of ice-cream in her hands, I love my best friend.

I took the bowl of chocolate ice-cream gratefully and indulged myself in it.
We sat there in silence, then after a few moments, Emily started chuckling.

I frowned at her and asked, ice-cream still in my mouth, "What?".

She crossed her arms, "It's just that you're so worked up over a boy. You, Danielle Paige Anderson, are fussing over a boy. That's like the irony of the century, Daniel is turning you into a girl".
