Another three years have passed since the events of Windsor College. In those three years, Sidney Prescott and Sarah Loomis slowly worked on their plan to go off the grid. They got their items back from the car that Mickey crashed during his Ghostface joyride, and saved enough money to get a house back in California, hidden in the mountains. By the time they were going to move into the house, Sidney had graduated, and Sarah dropped out. They also took jobs for California Women's Crisis Counseling, working from home under the names Laura and Carrie. Things seemed to work, but it wouldn't last.
Sarah was just finishing up her shift at work when Sidney returned from a walk with their dog, Cherokee.
"Hey, Sid." Sarah greets.
"Hey." Sidney responds. "Just finish up?"
"Yeah." Sarah responds, "How was the walk?"
"Good. Nice day outside." Sidney answers. "Well, I'm gonna check in for work."
"Alright." Sarah says before leaving the room.
After a few hours, Sidney was off and Sarah was feeding Cherokee when a news article caught their attention. Cotton had been killed. Both girls watched for a short moment before Sidney turned off the TV.
"Shit." She swore.
"Of course it's starting again." Sarah says, "I guess we only get 2-3 years of a break before another one shows up."
"I guess." Sidney responds, "I just hope that whoever this is doesn't know where we are."
"So do I, but they might also try and do whatever they can to find us or lure us out. We'll have to be more careful." Sarah says. " I just hope Rose and the others are gonna be okay."
Speaking of Rose, she was currently in L.A. on the Stab 3 set. Her new boyfriend, Roman Bridger, was directing the movie, and he asked Rose to help out. But with the murder, the movie looked like it could be in some trouble. Right now, they were talking with producer John Milton and other higher-ups at the studio.
"If you're worried about the movie, then protect the movie." Roman says, "Hire more security. Hire the National Guard. Just don't kill the movie."
"Violence in cinema is a big deal right now, Roman." One of the higher-ups said, "This is not the kind of news this studio is after."
"So if we stop making scary movies, what, all the psychos will retire? Come on." Roman says.
"And movies alone aren't the cause of what makes psychos, well, psycho." Rose adds, "There are plenty of other means."
"I've been making horror movies for 30 years, and never had a psycho problem." Milton says.
"He was your goddamn idea, guys." Roman says, "An ex-con with a trashy talk show? He must have pissed people off every day."
They continued to argue while police looked around, and the cast and crew continued working.
That night, back at Sidney and Sarah's place, they were talking with Sidney's dad, who had dropped by.
"It's happening again." Sidney says.
"Cotton had a lot of enemies, Sid." Neil Prescott says, "The police aren't saying it's related to us."
"Do you ever think about her?" Sidney asks.
"Your mom?" Neil asks.
"None of this would have ever happened if she hadn't- if she hadn't- why'd she have so many secrets, Dad?"
"Listen, maybe it's time you girls came home." Neil says, "I'm worried about you, and Sarah I'm sure your dad is, too. Out here by yourselves. You never see anyone. The only people you talk to don't even know your real names. It's as if you girls don't exist."
"That's the idea." Sarah says, "Psychos can't kill what they can't find."
Neither girl got much sleep that night. Sidney had nightmares about her mom, while Sarah had nightmares about past events.
