POV: Jake
I woke up to a nurse shining a light in my eyes and couldn't get back to sleep after she had left. Stupid nurses taking observations whilst I'm sleeping. When I couldn't see Phoenix in the corner of the room I panicked slightly but it wasn't long until I realised he was next to me asleep in the little chair.

I still haven't told him that I lost my job and I don't know how I will, every time he looks at me I can see that look in his eyes. The look of pity, and I've only been beaten up. I think he'll be the one crying if I tell him. I just don't really have anything in my life apart from him anymore and I'm not exactly complaining about that but I am. I think I need to go see my family at the farm for a bit after I'm all healed, I need a break from everything for a while.

I've been laid here for so long it's now light outside and Phoenix is starting to wake up. "Riseee and shineee," I say with a laugh and then immediately wince in pain, god damn bruised body. "Serves your right Jake," he laughs back and he stands up and stretches, revealing his tummy slightly which causes me to realise I definitely need to go see my family for a bit. I need to get away and figure some things out.

"It's just gone eight, and you're lucky I've got the day off work today so you'll be sick of me by tonight." "Aren't I lucky?" I reply before adding, "Go get some clean clothes from your place and have a shower, you're stinky." "Fine, don't go running away though!" He jokes.

When Phoenix left, my breakfast arrived and was eaten very slowly. My arms are definitely very sore and the pain meds are wearing off from last night, just what I wanted. As I was eating, a doctor came into my room and told me I'm able to go home tonight with pain medication and it will be fine but if anything changes then I've got to come back.

Thank god I'm going to be out of here soon.

I gave up eating and fell asleep, who knew eating was so exhausting. I really wanted that toast as well. Damn bruised body.

POV: Phoenix
I'm back at the hospital all clean and fresh, I brought some extra clothes for Jake just in case he wants to change out of those thin hospital gowns. I know I would.

"Hey Jake," I say quietly as he starts waking up from a nap. "Hey stinky," He replies as he stretches and immediately regrets it when he yelps in pain. "I need to stop doing that."

"I brought you some spare clothes to change into if you want?" "Yeah, the doctor said I could go home tonight if everything stays the same. I've just got to let my hand heal and come back to get the staples taken out in a few weeks time." I gave him the clothes and left the room, giving him some privacy. But I hadn't been out there for too long when my phone started ringing and it was him. "Can you come and help? It's really painful." "Sure, I'll be right there." I respond before ending the call and walking back into his room.

I did not expect to find him shirtless and panting when I got inside. I grabbed the clean shirt and carefully put it on him, thankfully his cannula had been detached from the drip so there wasn't any tubes to be careful of. I quickly and carefully put the joggers on, not wanting it to be any more awkward then it currently was in here.

He looked exhausted laying there afterwards, "have you told work you'll be off for a few weeks?" I ask as I sit back down on the chair next to his bed. "About that, they let me go. I was walking home from there when I got jumped. I have no job anymore but my benefits will cover everything until I can find another job, well just about." "Oh," was all I replied, honestly how could they let him go. "I'll be fine though, when am I not?" He adds when my silence continues. "Yeah, I'll help out too, Sorry they let you go. It really sucks Jake." I reply after a while of thinking.

We spent the next few hours in a somewhat comfortable silence and waited patiently for the doctor to come and discharge him, thankfully it was a quick sign off and I managed to get Jake home in one piece, he definitely was not a fan of my extra slow driving but I didn't want to cause more bruises on his already battered body.

I helped him get into his bed and told him to stay there whilst I went and got us some food. I didn't feel like cooking so I just went and grabbed some fish and chips from the chippy before returning home after a detour to Tesco.

We ate dinner in his bed and watched some Netflix, he fell asleep within the first few minutes and I was stuck between watching him or watching the show. Eventually the show finished and it was time for him to take his medication again so I had to wake him up and make sure he took it. "Can you stay tonight?" He asks me sleepily "of course I can." I reply before taking the water from him and taking it back to the kitchen.

I make my way back to his room and turn the light off before taking my shirt off and sliding in beside him. He's already out like a light but I shuffle closer to him, being careful not to touch his bruised body. What am I going to do about him?
