"Thats it Pawan," here we are.
Pawan stopped in his fast walk as he faced Rams back, and Lakshmans bland eyes stared at him emotionless.
"Sir.." Pawan called out in all glee, tiredness and victory.
Ram gulped as he slowly turned around. He prayed and hoped, that what he had heard was not an audio mirage. If it would be, the last if hopes could not be saved from being shattered. But if it was, it was unmistakably Pawan.
As he fixed his gaze on the man standing at a distance from him, tears welled up faster than ever and he just gazed up at the sky. His heart let out wishes and thanking to all those above and then, he glanced at Pawan back again.
"Come, Brother, Come here fast."
Sushen was elated and he started making arrangements for the medicine to be given to Lakshman.
"I told you Ram," he said, "I told you, Pawan would come safely and in time."
Ram nodded in ecstacy and Pawan came and sat next to him. He handed over the medicine to Sushen and glanced at Ram with gleaming eyes.
Rams hand very naturally went upto his face and cupped his cheek.
"Pawan, I will never forget this... whatever you have done for me. I am indebted to your my life..."
Pawan interjected and said,
"No! Sir, you might not believe but I do, this is what I was born for! This Is the purpose of my life. I will do this as many times as required and please Sir, dont make yourself indebted to me for this.."
Ram soothed him and said,
"Pawan, we all have a purpose, true, but we do not have only purpose in life. You risked your life for us, and thats why I will say again, I am indebted to you. "
Before Pawan could retort, Ram added,
"And if you truly respect me, then go back to the tent and lie down. It was a been gruelling time for you. Sushen Sir and I can take care of Lakshman with Sujit."
"But Sir I..."
Sujit picked Pawan up slowly by the arms and with a light laughter said,
"Sir, he's an adamant and stubborn boy. Unless he is punished, he wont go."
Sujit pulled him slowly towards the tent by his hand and Pawan kept on looking back.
"He's such a darling," Sushen said.
"That he is," Ram replied.
----------
A tiresome 2 hours had passed. Sushen had carefully cleaned the region where the bullet had affected Lakshman and applied all the required medication. Lakshman had been made to drink lots of water and Sushen broke the tablets into Oral medication, feeding the same to him with a mixture of water, the cleanest of what could be called so.
The blue colour on Lakshmans face restored to his gleaming white, but Lakshman not opened his eyes completely yet. Bags had formed under them.
Ram ran his fingers through Lakshmans hair and sighed.
"I hope were not too late," his conscience whispered, and he let the words out through his mouth.
