Mimosas and Just Dance 2020 was not how I imagined spending my Friday night. But it has been fun so far. Even with a dance rhythm game giving out instructions for her to mimic, Lydia still struggled to get one move right. I don't even know why she suggested playing the game.
Naomi was laughing so hard with tears in her eyes as Lydia accidentally stepped on her own pinky toe. "Okay maybe we should just take a break before you end up in the ER." she joked, pausing the game and slumping down on the sofa.
"You two are so jealous of my dancing skills." Lydia accused as she followed Naomi's actions.
"Lyd. I took an elbow to the stomach and you kicked Naomi in the shin. I don't think jealous is the word you're looking for." I informed, still laughing at how horrible that was.
"Whatever, It's not my fault you two can't keep up." she reached for her glass of mimosa, "Anyways, N, have you figured out what you wanna do for your birthday?"
"No. I can't think of anything I'd want to do. Maybe we should just sit this one out?" she suggested.
We all knew that was not going to happen. Not under Lydia's watch at least. "No. That's not an option. How about we throw a party?"
"I don't want to spend my birthday around people I don't know. And do you remember the last time we had a party? I took 2 weeks to get the smell of vomit and beer out of this place."
"Okay, no party." I agreed. "Well it is summer, and there's one thing we haven't done. Beach."
"That can work. What beach?" Naomi questioned and that's when I had an idea.
"I have an idea. My parents still own that beach house in Malibu. They never use it. Maybe we can go up there and spend the weekend." My parents bought the property 3 years ago but we've only been there once.
Naomi and Lydia squealed. "I love that. We can rent a car and leave on Friday." Naomi was already on the phone making preparations even though it was a week and a half away.
"We should go shopping tomorrow to find something to wear to your parents' party. And probably pick out a bathing suit or two." I suggested to which they both agreed.
"So Naomi, you planning to invite Caleb to Malibu?" I asked her. It's totally fine if she wants to invite him.
"I don't know. He doesn't even know that my birthday is coming up," she mumbled the last part quietly.
Naomi might hate the birthday parties that her parents had for her, but she liked her birthday. I don't get why she wouldn't have told Caleb. Especially since they both clearly like each other.
"What? Why haven't you told him?" Lydia voiced my thoughts.
"Well, " she started, "I like Caleb, I even though about asking him to be my date to the stupid cocktail, but I don't know if I'm ready to start talking about the disaster that is my family. If I tell him my actual birth date he's going to ask why I don't celebrate on that day and then I'd have to explain the whole parent thing. He doesn't even know I come from money."
"Oh honey, if he likes you as much as I think he does, I'm sure he'll be supportive and understand the whole family thing. And maybe asking him to be your date wouldn't be so bad. You always seem so miserable at those things and I see the way Caleb makes you smile." I tried advising her.
Her eyes zoned out for a minute, probably thinking about what I said, "okay maybe I'll try talking to him. I'll just ask him to come to the mall with us tomorrow
"Great. Now that that's settled. Who wants pizza?"

Short chapter, I know. But I promise to make the next a little longer. Until next time.
