"I hate whoever decided that it was fun to put letters in Math!" Lydia exclaimed as we walk out of our calculus exam. Which also happens to be the final exam we had.
"You mean like how this morning you hated whoever decided coconut and chocolate goes together?" I laugh at her antics. "At least it's over. Now we can look forward to summer and Naomi's birthday." I reminded her.
Naomi's birthday celebrations were always extravagant. Not by choice though. Her parents always insisted that she does something big as their way of keeping up appearances. This year they decided to have a cocktail party. The parties are usually fun, but her parents tend to make the day less about Naomi by inviting all their posh friends which unfortunately includes my parents.
After Naomi's 17th birthday we started celebrating her birthday the day after the actual day. That way she gets to do what she wants and her parents get their party. Everyone wins. We still haven't decided on a plan though.
"Yes. Exactly like that. This felt like the longest semester ever. I'm just happy it's over. I was one calculus equation away from becoming Isiah." Lydia joked.
Isiah is my older brother. He'd have our heads if he knew that we used his name as an adjective. He used to go to Cal-State University as well. Until he dropped out claiming that he's too good looking for school. Nothing brought more joy than the look on my dad's face when he heard the news. Isiah was always adventurous but my parents just never paid enough attention to us to realize when we were unhappy doing something and Isiah was definitely unhappy.
He moved back to England last year to pursue modeling and to be closer to his girlfriend Allison. They've been together for almost 5 years now.
Lydia and I made our way to Kream, a cafe that we hang out regularly because they serve the best Iced Coffee I've ever tasted.
Lydia went to save us a seat at one of the tables closer to the glass windows overlooking the beach while I ordered our drinks."Hey, Olivia. Let me guess. Iced Caramel Macchiato for Lydia and an Iced Blonde Vanilla Latte for you?" Sienna, the barista, said reciting our usual orders.
"I'm starting to think I need a new order, Sienna." I joked.
"We both know that's never going to happen. I'll get Greyson to bring your order to your table." She told me
"Thanks. Oh, and Naomi will be joining us in a bit so just add her green juice order as well please." Sienna nodded while placing the orders in the machine. I paid her and made my way over to Lydia who is no longer seated alone.
She looked up after realizing that I'm approaching her. "Hey, Liv. This is Caleb. He's in my psychology class." She said pointing to the guy seated in front of her.
"Hi. I'm Olivia. Nice to meet you." I offered a hand for him to shake.
"Caleb. Nice to meet you too Olivia" he said shaking my hand.
I took a seat to the right of Lydia as they continued to talk about whatever they were before. I took the time to look at Caleb. He's actually really good looking. He has brown hair and blue eyes that I'm sure you can get lost in if you stare at them too long. He seems fit too; like he works out. He's smiling at something Lydia said showing of a row of perfectly aligned teeth. This guy must get a lot of girls with all these good features.
"What do you say, Olivia?" I heard Lydia ask.
"Huh. Yh sure." I wasn't really sure what the question was but if Lydia is in I'm sure it's nothing too wild.
"Great," she said to me, turning back to face Caleb, "We'll be there."
Be there? Be where? I probably should've paid more attention to this conversation.
"Cool. See you at the bonfire then. Nice to meet you again Olivia." Caleb said, standing up and exiting the cafe right as Naomi walked in.
Oh, that's right. The bonfire that kicks off summer. I've never been but I have heard that it can be fun. I totally forgot that that's tonight.
I had already set up a date with my couch and coco puff cereal. So much for staying in and watching a re-run of Friends tonight.
