I immediately opened the door and felt a chill down my spine. I was shocked as I saw emptiness before me.
Nobody was there.
I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't creeped out. I thought I had hallucinated, but that had felt so weirdly real. I stepped out of my room and scanned the corridor.
My room was the last one on the 4th floor and the elevator was all the way at the other end, but yet nobody was there.
There was no way that anyone could have been knocking on my door one second and vanished into thin air the next, no one is that fast.'No more codeine for me.' I told myself.
Without a doubt, I blamed what had just happened on, the medication that I had taken 4 hours ago, my exhaustion and my jet lag. I closed my door and went back to sleep.
That night I had the weirdest dreams, as if I couldn't see what was happening in them because my vision had been blurred. The next morning, I met Kate and James at the station. We spent the ride chatting and getting to know each other, they were really cool.
I loved Kate's personality, and James's love for everything history related. Before we knew it, we had arrived at Stratford-upon-Avon, home of Shakespeare. I felt goosebumps all over my body as we walked into what was formerly his home. The architecture of the house was just like I had imagined, it had that XVIth century style and a lot of charm. It had been restored of course, but the feel was there. The tour lasted about an hour. I had taken so many pictures that my phone battery was about to die. Kate suggested that we should take a lunch break and allow me to charge my phone. We had lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon wandering about the streets, going to a few shops, making a stop at Anne Hathaway's cottage and spent two hours at the Tudor world, an amazing fun museum about the life in the Tudor era, where Kate an I had a great time pranking James.
It was overall an amazing day, but James had something even better planned for the evening. We were standing in front of the Royal Shakespeare theatre, waiting for a cab when I started to notice his weird behavior.
"Emma have you ever been to a play ?" he asked, amused. I could tell by the look on his face that he had something planned.
"Does a musical in Broadway count ?" I asked, laughing. He looked at Kate, a huge grin on his face and continued,
"What would you say, if I told you that I have 3 tickets to go see 'Romeo and Juliet' at the Royal Shakespeare theatre ?" he continued.
"What ?!" I yelled, "No way ! No bloody freaking way on Earth ?! Are you serious ? Oh my bloody God it's amazing ! Really ? Like for real ?!" I said,
"Yes, we have to go now though otherwise we'll be late, come on let's go ! And easy on the 'b' word would you ?" he added, laughing. Before I could realize what was happening, James grabbed my hand and dragged me into the theatre. It was one of the best evenings of my life.
The actors were really good, the play was fantastic and everything was just the way it was supposed to be. Kate and I unavoidably cried at the end of the play and James laughed at our smeared and dripping mascara.
What can I say ? I love a good but terribly ending love story. We then all went back to the hotel, and suddenly I remembered what had happened the night before. I told Kate, and she laughed at me, and said that it was probably the codeine that messed with my head. I agreed and we all went to sleep.
I had trouble sleeping that night. As if my room was too cold, which I didn't understand since I had blasted the electric heater to the maximum temperature. I could feel a light breeze coming into the room. I got up to check the window, but it was already closed.
Where was this draft coming from ?I took out an extra blanket that was stocked in a drawer underneath my bed and went back to sleep.
At 8 o'clock I joined James and Kate downstairs for breakfast.
