Emma is your average milenial college student. Between her friends, her classes and her family she has her hands full ! But a literature contest is going to change her life for ever when her destiny takes...
Music was playing and people started taking their first dance steps. They hoped and twirled like they've been doing this their whole life, and they had. Women had been taught to dance and be gracious since infancy.
I, on the other hand, have never been to a single ballet class my mother attempted to sign me up in. We struggled with money but she didn't want us to miss on anything throughout our childhood. To her dismay, dancing was never my cup of tea, I prefered, without any surprise, holing up in my bedroom, reading Harry Potter books.
But tonight I regretted that decision so much.
The King was standing before me, his hand waiting for mine. I rapidly looked around to see if anyone was staring. To my surprise, people seemed to be more fascinated by the dance than the King's proposal to me.
'Pretend to be sick ! Or faint ! Or say that you sprained your ankle while running in the Tower ! Vomit just vomit ! He won't want to dance with you after that ...! blurted my mind,
But Henry wasn't any man on campus that could easily be turned down at a party. Refusing to stand and dance with him could potentially have negative consequences. Fatal even.
My survival instinct kicked in, and before I knew it, I was walking towards the dancing crowd, with him at my side.

"Your Majesty, forgive me but I have to tell you that I'm not a very good dancer. I don't know how to perform this sort of dance." I honestly said.
"Do not fear anything, Lady Hastings, for I have been told that I was a very good teacher. When it comes to dancing, just follow your male partner and everything will go on the way it should" He said in a very eager voice.
We took our places and waited for our turn. My heart was going to explode out of my chest. I felt my back burning from every courtier's stare. I took my first steps mimicking the women standing right next to me.
'1,2,3. 1,2,3.' I started counting my mind. 'Okey Em you can do this. You've watched «Step it up », you just need to keep counting'.
After a few minutes, my awkwardness took over and I tripped and stepped on Henry's foot, almost falling on my face.
"Oh my gosh ! I'm so sorry ! I didn't mean to step on your toes ! Jeez I'm so clumsy !" I said before realising what had just happened. I lost my « English accent ».
Henry looked at me, puzzled. "Oh my gosh ?"he asked half laughing, "What do you mean by that Lady Hastings ?"
I was panicked, my anxiety was going at 200 miles per hour. Shit I've screwed it up !
"Erm... it's... a Cambridge expression your Majesty... to avoid cursing ! It's very commonly used !" I said trying to sound convincing.
He stared at me for a few seconds and laughed uncontrollably. "Well well, I believe the English language is evolving extremely fast !"
