Cassie POV
New town. New surroundings. New start. At least I hope that's the case. I try and let my thoughts wonder, to keep the recent events from replaying through my head. I didn't need that right now, I've come for a new start, and I'm getting one.
I stared out of the window of my new house, watching the moving truck wind into the driveway, "Come on down dear, your stuff are here. Better grab it and start unpacking." I hear the overly enthusiastic voice of my mum echo through the house.
I don't understand where my mum's enthusiasm comes from, sure we have a much more spacious backyard now- perfect for her love for gardening. And yeah, not to forget that we get to meet our new neighbours, who even I was a bit curious about, considering the horrible ones we had before we moved here.
We used to have two elderly couples as neighbours prior to moving here and no, before you get any ideas- they weren't those nice old couples that gave us cookie every weekend.
In fact, they were quite the opposite.
I don't mean any disrespect, but they were rude and downright horrible.
Always complaining about this and that, and driving even my parents crazy. They didn't have the nicest manners either, I would know having accidently broken their garden gnome while playing catch with a few friends. Well, what used to be my friends.
But the fact of us finally having new neighbours, really didn't excuse the overly cheerful mood mum has had since arriving here.
Rolling my eyes I peeled my eyes away from the window and slowly found my way to the front door. The house was cozy and felt welcoming compared to my previous house. It wasn't too big, and the layout was easy to get used to.
Once stepping through the front door, the kitchen and dining table was to the left, and the living room opposite and to the right. My bedroom was further in along the corridor with my parent's one on the other side. The bathroom was just about opposite my room which I really didn't mind considering the short trip and first dibs of it in the mornings.
I arrived just in time to see a man moving all the boxes from the truck into the living room. Mum was already rummaging through one bringing up a frame with a picture of me when I was six plastered on it. I inwardly groaned. For some reason she was extremely attached to this photo of me. It was me my first time at the beach, and I was smiling brightly at the camera holding out a glass of lemonade and balancing on one foot as if I was trying to give some to the person outside the photo.
"Mum, we are not putting that up in the living room." I said blankly to her, glancing at the picture "you know how I feel about having embarrassing pictures of me all over the house."
She frowned looking from the box which I guessed contained a lot more of our family pictures and turned her head towards me "Cassie, I don't understand why you don't want others to see how cute you were when you were younger." She said, already looking around for a place to put it. "And doing this gives a more homely atmosphere, I'm sure it will help greatly to getting used to this new surrounding" Stopping to look me in the eye.
I sighed, "I don't want this to be the first thing my friends see when they come over, and I don't need getting used to I'm fine as it is." raising my eyebrows. And there was also the chance of our neighbour coming over to greet us and seeing them, of course I wouldn't mention that to my mum though. I already know that it would only encourage her to hang more around the place.
"Fine, we can take some down when your friends come over but it's staying for now." Crossing her arms in front of her. "By the way, Your box of things are there" pointing towards a box that was obviously placed upside down due to the 'right side up' arrow facing to the ground. "Now, I have a lot to do, so why don't you go for a walk around the block for a while to make some friends before you start unpacking? Just be back for dinner, and try get use to the new neighbourhood." Her voice softening and giving me an encouraging look.
