Cassie POV
I stood up from the swings smiling as I waved in the direction of the girl that was running towards me.
By the time she got here she was out of breath, her cheeks flushed.
"Hey Cassie-mellow, I missed you." Her dimples were showing as she gave me a huge smile. I felt myself melting from her cuteness.
I bent down to give her the best hug I could muster considering I had a drink in one hand and a cookie in the other.
"I missed you too Rosie. How was the marsh mellow I sneaked you?" I said giving a light hearted laugh. I still remember her clearly, asking me to get her a marsh mellow at the café on my first day.
I smiled to myself, she was as cute as the last time I remembered her to be, her dark blond hair again tied in two small braids accompanied by her light blue eyes.
While hugging her, I felt her softly whisper in my ear, "Shhh, it's a secret. I didn't tell Mitchie-bee or mummy that I got another marsh mellow. Don't ever tell them, kay Cassie-mellow?" I felt her lean further forward, "And yes, it was very yummy." I smiled as she pulled away returning a grin.
Her eye's slowly widened at something in my hand, I looked down confused before I broke out into another smile. Of course, she was staring at my cookie.
"Would you like some of my cookie Rosie?" I asked breaking of a bit off and holding it out to her.
Her eye's brightened up, and she gave a quick nod before accepting the bit of cookie. "Thank you so so so much Cassie-mellow!" she munched on it contently as she hopped onto the swing next to me.
"You know, you are much nicer than Mitchie-bee. He never shares his cookies with me." She said thoughtfully, letting her legs dangle off the ground. "But he does take me out to ice cream lots, and he's very funny, so I guess he's ok." She added, giving me a toothy grin.
I smiled to myself. Her innocence was adorable, just voicing out whatever's on her mind without another care in the world.
My heart sank at that thought, I wish I was still able to be like that without being judged, how easy would my life be then?
I didn't realise that I had spaced out before I heard a voice calling out Rosie's name. I glanced at her as she perked up mid bite from the cookie, "Is someone calling you Rosie?" I asked in confusion, not too sure if I heard right.
She nodded, "its Mitchie-bee! Come on, you can meet him. I promise that he's wonderful, maybe he'll even get us ice cream!" grinning at the last thought as she took my hand, pulling me off to the direction of a large tree.
I let her pull me along, looking around to try find the person who had called for her, I frowned as I saw no one in the proximity. "Rosie, are you sure someone called you from this direction?"
She slowed her pace and looked up a me, "Mitchie-bee doesn't like going to the swings much, so he always waits under that big tree whenever I decide to go to the swings." Pointing towards a big oak a few meters away from us.
"See, there he is." Rosie said as she tore herself away from me and ran towards a figure that appeared behind the tree.
I walked closer, eyes widening at the familiar blond hair carrying those brown highlights and the captivating blue eyes. It was Mitchell.
Rosie ran up to Mitchell in time for him to lift her off the ground, swinging her into a hug. The soft tinkles of her laughter filling my ears.
I stood there awkwardly, not sure when to make a move notifying my presence. I guess I didn't need to as Mitchell gently put Rosie back on the ground before his eyes landed on me, looking just as surprised as I was.
