Scrapes and bruises
wounds and bullet holes
will numb in time
with the doctor's note
prescribing medication
to relieve the persisting pain
But what can be said
of an emotional hole
not from a knife or a gun
The memories
precious thoughts to cherish and keep
are worse than physical wounds
because stiches won't help you heal
or ever make you whole.
