Authors Note: This takes place seven years before the fall of Wall Maria.

Ramsey growled lowly at the man as he put her cage back in its slot. The last four months had not softened her eat towards these scientists. She listened to the bored discussions in her head as the others conversed over the general mindlink. Ramsey didn't bother blocking the rambling coversations - this place was boring enough as it was.

The dark grey gryphon in the cage beside Ramsey hissed as the man walked by her cage. She had hatched about a month ago and was even less impressed with the situation than she was. Being younger than Ramsey, she was a bit smaller than herself, although not by much as Ramsey now stood at five feet and four inches, the ideal size of a woman in her old village.

There were 99 gryphons now, and the first five survivors had been here almost half a year. No one knew when the gryphons stopped growing, but they were about a quarter bigger than the newly hatched gryphons, standing at six feet. Which kind of surprised the scientists.

All of the gryphons held a massive grudge against the humans walking around the place. The routine was predictable and terribly boring. We all got three meals a day, and sometimes a treat if we were good in the 'room' where we exercise for an hour three times a day. We sat in our cages for the rest of the time. We were kept seperated from each other to prevent physical contact.

The main discussion on the general mindlink was a common theme; how to escape and what we could do after we managed it. So far, no one has not had any luck in getting loose, other than one light brown gryphon who had managed to push his cage until it fell over and he got out. He had been unable to get out of the room with its weird locks before the scientists came in for a routine feeding and noticed the gryphon. They had swiftly sprayed him, and now all of the cages were upgraded with magnets.

What we would do in the impossible event that one of us managed to escape was a widely heated debated discussion. If we pretended to be animals, we would probably end up being hunted for sport and show. If we revealed our intelligence, which would be needed to free the other gryphons, it could lead to our extinction faster than being hunted.

We all paused as the building shook slightly for a few seconds. A shy voice asked, "Was that an earthquake?"

"Probably.."

Another voice joined in. "I'm not sure; the earthquakes back in my village felt a bit different. This was like the vibration of a titan falling down."

A huge explosion blew in part of the wall before anyone else could speak their mind. Many screeched in fear or surprise at the unexpected event. One table was knocked over before the lights went out. The magnetic locks gave way, and the seven cages dropped the last distance to the floor. All of the cages toppled upside down.

One of the oldest here was swift to spot an opening. "Quick! knock all the cages to the floor so we can all escape!"

Although two were too dazed to stand from the impact, the other five jumped into action as they started pushing different cages over the edges. Each newly-freed gryphon quickly started to free others. Ramsey waited impatiently for the almost black gryphon to push her cage off the edge. She quickly opened her wings to fly out with ease from practice. She opened another cage before we were all free.
