Ramsey yawned as she stretched on a ledge and carefully inspected the area. No one and nothing was visible with the remaining light of the setting sun. She looked down and didn't see any signs of humans or titans, so she unfurled her wings and slashes through the air towards one of the tree tops.
As she neared, she back-winged a few times before her haunches touched the nest she had made. Her gryphon body was at least 8 feet long, which also means her nest has to have some moving space, so it's large. This was my home, so to speak. It's out of reach from the titans and the humans couldn't use their gear due to all the weak branches.
One the side of the nest there was a little entry hole just big enough to fit Ramsey. Inside there was dried meat and large fruits just in case a bad storm came around, although it had to be a pretty severe storm to deter us from the Morning Meeting.
The rain didn't really bother us since it rolled off our pelts and wing feathers, so the wind would would have to be roaring to stir up the sheltered areas in the dense stands of trees to point where the debris was flying everywhere. Although uncommon, such storms usually passed through a couple times each year.
"Who wants to volunteer to be sentry this week? There have been more abnormal titan spottings within the last few days." Ryan, one of the oldest gryphons asked.
Although Ramsey liked sentry since it allowed her to sunbathe in the better spots, she preferred hunting to all other jobs. She loved the thrill of chasing after her prey.
After the Morning Meeting was done, we all went our seperate ways. Ramsey went towards the hunting pile to snare a squirrel for a snack before heading to the stream to wash it off like a raccoon and eating it. Taking a sip of water, a faint scent roused her pelt and halfway unfurl her wings as a gesture as dominance as she heard thumping. Titan. She thought to herself.
Although the titan was just a big bigger than Ramsey, standing at 3 meters tall. It was an abnormal, as if it were sneaking up on its prey. Ramsey had never encountered an abnormal titan. Normal titans, yes, all the time. But the scent of this abnormal titan wanted to make Ramsey torture the souless being.
Her instincts screamed at her to launch herself at it with vines and claws. She could feel the nature around herself flutter against her will. She held still only by force of her sheer willpower, although she still lowered herself to the ground and fully flared her wings, snarling lowly at it. Ramsey shared the image of the creature with those in rage of her general mindlink. She immediately got back reactions of rage, bloodthirst, and other scary aggresive reactions. Ramsey could tell that they were also surprised at their own reactions, but were unable to suppress them. Most were heading in her direction at full spead.
The abnormal titan came forward slowly in a hunting stalk. It was obviously targeting Ramsey, and its intentions only made her hate the predatory titan more. She snarled, drool escaping her beak as the titan continued to stalk, although its eyes never left her.
Four gryphons dropped out of the sky in a dive-bomb manner as vines circled the titan. Ramsey was unable to restrain herself and also launched at the creature with talons and vines of her own. They were agile enough to avoid one another and thick vines as we swirled rapily around the now-agitated abnormal titan.
It shrieked with pain as our claws cut through its skin like paper. It seemed enraged because of the vines trying to hold it down. It saw a gap in our formation and bolted through it, trying to get an advantage to us. Ramseys' instincts took full control of her body as she flew up in the air, her wings creating small tidal waves of bursts of air and furled her wings, turning sideways as she dive-bombed through the steam and held out her front paws and exposed her claws, slicing through the nape of the titan cleanly.
The titan fell with a loud thump as the steam continued to vaporate from the disgusting creatures now-corpse. A silver-looking gryphon was trying to recover from the bizarre rage. "Why did we have such an intent to kill the abnormal titan?"
Ramsey shook her head as we glided in a wide circle around the corpse. "I am not sure, but I have never wanted to kill something as badly as I wanted to kill that abnormal titan."
She felt the others' agreement over the mindlink. A lady by the name of Serena replied, "I am going to help Jax guard his hatchlings. They cannot fly yet, and if the Morning Meeting is correct, there are more around. He is going to need all the help he can get."
A black gryphon nodded in agreement. "Let's go. If anyone spots another, mindlink everyone you can."
The silver gryphon flew after him, and her mindvoice was contemplative as she said, "Did you notice how scared it was of our vines? It was completely terrified that it went into rage."
Ramsey followed after them. "I noticed that too. It reminded me of the blind panic that horses experience when there's a predator nearby."
We spent the rest of the day with the pair who had the hatchlings. She doubted that any of us would sleep well tonight, knowing that there are more abdnormal titans. Up until now, the most dangerous creatures in the forest would be a large pack of wolves. This was a major game changer.
