Ramsey shook herself hard. After her pelt calmed down, she took flight again after sleeping last night and lazily flew to a different section of the creek where sand and rocks tended to collect.
To her delight, there was another gryphon just arriving for her own bath as well. The dark grey gryphon used rocks to scrub the fur and dry skin along my back where Ramseys' wings prevented me from cleaning it herself. Ramsey also cleaned her pelt for her. Once their pelt was soft and smooth again, they moved to a side to lie on large rocks.
Ramsey spread her wings to dry and sunbathe as the sun fially came out from behind the clouds. The heat was intoxicating and energized her.
Ramsey wasn't like a reptile that was crippled or slowed by the cold. She could tolerate it with her pelt and maintain her body temperature, but much like when she had truly been human, Ramsey preferred the temperatures above freezing. Thankfully, the walls inside and out never reached such cold temperatures.
Ramsey yawned and eventually got to her feet. The other gryphon showed no indication that she was done sunbathing yet. Ramsey shook her wings, the feathers flowing in the breeze and jumped towards the sky before letting her wings unfold from her back to slash at the air. She kept her flight out of the prying eyes of both Scouts and Titans alike, which was fairly easy with her sharp eyesight and keen sense of smell.
She finally settled on a huge gryphon-made nest on one of the biggest tree-tops and plucked a dead animal corpse from the hunting pile the hunters gathered each week. After grabbing another hare in her paws, she unfurled her wings once more and glided down to a different tree to settle in. The other gryphons were using the general mindlink as they spot to one another.
Most of the discussion was about where they were heading for the day and what their plans were. Life as a gryphon was pretty boring. Or as Mace puts it, is the glass half empty or half full? Him and his mind games..
One pair had hatchlings that were still unable to fly, so they were taking some fruit to them. Once they were able to leave the nest, the would either join our Morning Meeting or rest just inside the circle of huge gryphons.
Our Morning Meeting had been in this area for the last two days, risky. But it's so they wouldn't have to travel far. We kept close enough that we would be able to hear their children's cries if they called out for help. Luckily, unflighted hatchlings seemed to do nothing but eat and sleep, so they weren't able to get into any mischief. They tripled in size during the first two weeks, which was fortunate considering that foxes and some other critters were still potential threats.
Others were bathing or planning breakfast. Some games were being planned, while the more energetic gryphons were planning games of aerial tag. A couple were currently wrestling with each other in the long gress. Some were heading to remote areas to play games that their old villages created.
We took great care to hide the more intelligent games from the Scout Regiment, lest we give ourselves away. We had no plans to let them realize that we were anything other than a somewhat clever animal.
Many had sunbathing as the main agenda; boredom did not affect this large body as strongly as it did within humans. Almost like a cat, we were happy with simply being content. Some of us planned our sunbathing where we could spy on the walls. That was her usual way to pass time as well.
Watching the titans and scout regiment was different than watching birds or other smaller animals. The wild creatures' behaviours were quite predictable after so long, but the humans were still somewhat of an enigma. A creepy enigma that I had no desire to get near, but at least their actions would give Ramsey something to think about.
The group of scouts she was watching eventually got up and went on their way on horseback. Ramsey examined the sun as it disappeared behind some clouds. So much for sunbathing today.. She focused on the minlink, listening to the voices again. The general mindlink didn't have that large of a range and could barely reach halfway across the forest. Thankfully, mindlinking an individual or small group directly seemed to have almost no limit when it came to distance.
Several within range had started complaining about the sun's disappearance. She spread her wings and went to visit the group playing a game of chess, as it can sometimes, almost aways, become incredibly intense with our level of intelligence.
