Lillian's POV
The police had arrived nine minutes after the men left with the system unit and lots of cables. I also noticed they brought back with them a bag full of cameras. If they saw us because Scotland Yard came late, I bet we're running around London to get away.
DI Lestrade talked immediately to Sherlock and Dr. Watson. I, on the other hand, watched as other officers investigated the area inside and outside the house. They would see the mark on the baseboard for sure, unless that has been covered up. They would also see the trails of the cables and where the system unit once sat. I have pictures as proof, in case needed.
"Jim Moriarty?! You think he's behind this?"
I heard Lestrade yell. There was confusion and shock on his face.
How do they know Moriarty? Has he been acquainted with them before?
"Lillian," called Dr. Watson, "you took a picture, right? Of the mark we saw on the wall."
I nodded and showed Lestrade the pictures.
"Who's Jim Moriarty?"
The three men looked at me as if I have said a swear word.
"Have you heard of him?" asks Lestrade, swiping on my phone.
"No, that's why I'm asking. I heard you shout his name not long ago."
"We think he's a suspect," Dr. Watson answered.
I furrowed my eyebrows. "What makes him the suspect?"
"A suspect," Sherlock corrected. "He's a known criminal of the underground economy. Consulting criminal to be more specific."
"A psychopath," Lestrade cuts in, handing me back my phone. "Every crime he commits churns up my insides. The only person that can deal with him is Sherlock, since they have the same smart-arse wavelengths apparently."
Sherlock glared at him to which Lestrade returned to with a playful smirk. He nodded, directing his sight to an officer in a window.
"Sparrow! Have you seen the mark there?!" He asked.
"Yes sir! It's the only one found," she answered back.
Lestrade patted Sherlock's shoulder then walked away. "I'll inform you when there's a new one, and don't go your own way, it's risky business."
. . .
We left the house and went to Bart's, heading directly to the lab. Sherlock pulled out the piece of carpet he put inside a ziploc. I watched across the table as he brushed of the dirt and cut the carpet into smaller pieces. With such concentration, he studies those pieces. I would ask questions time after time like what was the chemical he used to know there was asphalt or CMC on the dirt.
Dr. Watson had his own little world in the other corner of the room. I would talk with him once in a while but I was more interested in Sherlock's work.
"Oh. Hello." Molly comes into the lab, wearing her lab coat over a sea green shirt with a print on it, a mustard yellow cardigan and dark blue jeans. "New case?"
"Yep. Some sort of techy burglars," I answered.
"Good luck with that then. I just came here for the uh..." She points at the ninhydrin spray near me. I gave it to her.
"Thank you. See you around." She turns around to leave.
"Good luck on your date tonight by the way," I said.
